Like many countries in East Asia, South Korea marries the traditional and modern with astounding contrast. Its capital city, Seoul, is one of the largest in the world – a bustling metropolis of neon and skyscrapers, the city’s pulse can be felt in its vibrant districts: from the trendy shops, cafes and ‘style’ of Gangnam, to the ubiquitous marketing of its globally recognised K-pop stars.

However, amongst the futurism lies its illustrious history, from the historical site of Gyeongbokgung Palace, showcasing 14^th-century architecture, to Bukchon Hanok Village, consisting of traditional housing from the Joseon period, or the ancient Namhansanseong Fortress, designed to repel invaders, providing both a sobering snapshot into its past and a reminder of the rapidity at which cultures evolve.

Beyond Seoul, South Korea’s landscape is highly varied, featuring scenic mountains, picturesque coastlines, and serene countryside. The ancient city of Gyeongju, often referred to as the “museum without walls”, showcases an abundance of historical treasures. Meanwhile, the coastal city of Busan offers stunning beaches and a thriving fish market.
