Seven reasons you need to hop on a plane to Borneo NOW

We love Borneo.

Here’s why:

1. It’s overrun with animals. It has monkeys, orangutans, sun bears, lizards, elephants, crocodiles, rhinos – the list goes on and on. Plus there are countless nature reserves working hard to protect, rehabilitate and keep these incredible creatures in the wild where they belong.

2. You can relax on white sand beaches and trek through ancient rainforests. There’s Southeast Asia’s highest mountain – Mount Kinabalu – to climb if you need a challenge.

3. You can stay in pretty much any kind of accommodation you could imagine. A boat on a river. A lodge in the jungle. A traditional long house (complete with local tribe to join you for dinner). 5-star, forget-the-world luxury. A tent.

4. It has caves so enormous you could stack several double decker buses in them and find a perfect profile of President Lincoln. Caves where bird nests make a local delicacy and you can watch harvesters at work collecting them. Caves where the stalactites and stalagmites have intricate lace-like patterns on them and caves where the water is so cool and crisp the only answer is to pack a picnic and spend the day swimming.

5. It calls to adventure lovers. There’s the aforementioned mountain, plus cruising down jungle-lined rivers, sleeping in the jungle and learning the ancient Iban art of blowing poisonous darts for hunting.

6. You can do it on a shoestring, head off the beaten track or go all out and enjoy every indulgent luxury imaginable.

7. It is bursting with unforgettable experiences and you’ll want to make every sunrise count while you’re in this beautiful, unspoilt country.
