Birds of the Galapagos Islands

       

Located 563 miles west of Ecuador, a visit to the Galapagos Islands is a uniquely rich experience. Given humankind’s minimal influence on the environment, the land and water are some of the most natural and unspoiled in the world, as well as containing a considerably high number of endemic species.

But the stars of the show are the veritable profusion of birds: with 174 unique bird species including 45 endemic, these islands make for a paradise of unique and vibrant bird species. From the only penguin species north of the equator, the flightless Cormorant, colourful flamingos, and the local celebrities themselves, the characterful Blue-footed Booby.

In addition to this bird frenzy, there are of course a range of fascinating mammals such as the giant tortoise, sea lions and marine iguana, making the Galapagos Islands a treasure of diversity.

Snow Monkeys of Japan

       

Japan is a country of contrasts, from the electrified Tokyo centre to the traditional temples and geisha girls, there’s more than one world to discover, including its wildlife.

The Jigokudani Monkey Park offers the unique opportunity to witness Japanese Macaques (aka Snow Monkeys) bathing in pools just feet away from guests. Due to having been inured to the sight, the monkeys tend to ignore the human guests and simply go about their business allowing visitors to watch them live their lives organically.
