Borneo Wildlife & Beaches Holiday

A wonderful 14-day tour of the wildlife and beaches of Borneo, including the dramatic scenery and wildlife of the Danum Valley. Experience the rainforest jungle with its thrilling suspended walkway high above the jungle. Spot Bornean Pygmy Elephants and gibbons, Clouded Leopard and the Leaf Monkey. Go in search of the unique Proboscis Monkeys along the Kinabatangan River and of course the loveable Orangutans and Sun Bears at Sepilok. Finish your holiday amidst the crystal clear waters of the South China Sea as you relax on beautiful Gaya Island.

Day 1: Arrive in Borneo

On arrival you will be met and transferred to your 5 star coastal resort in Kota Kinabalu. The remainder of your day is at leisure.

Day 2: Kota Kinabalu at leisure

Enjoy the facilities at the resort or choose from one of our favourite day tours in the area.

Day 3: Kota Kinabalu – Danum Valley (B,L,D)

Take a short flight to Lahad Datu to visit the Danum Valley region and the fabulous Borneo Rainforest Lodge. Enjoy the day trekking the established trails with an extremely knowledgeable local guide, including an exciting walk across the suspended walkway and a night drive in search of nocturnal animals.

Day 4: Danum Valley (B,L,D)

Take a nature walk through the undisturbed riverine and lowland forest where there is a chance of seeing Orangutans in the wild, plus Proboscis Monkeys, Hornbills and Leaf Monkeys. Trek to a famous viewpoint for a bird’s eye view of the entire Danum Valley region.

Day 5: Danum Valley – Kinabatangan (B,L,D)

An early start to get to the Kinabatangan River region. After checking into your river lodge, take an afternoon river cruise to spot wildlife.

Day 6: Kinabatangan – Abai (B,L,D)

Enjoy a river trip to the Ox Bow Lake observing wildlife en-route. Transfer onwards to the Menanggul River by boat and your next lodge on the river. Here you will have the opportunity to take part in the tree planting project followed by an optional lunch with the local Abai villagers. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 7: Abai – Pitas Lake (B,L,D)

Take an early morning river cruise to the nearby Pitas Lake observing wildlife as the sun rises. Return to the lodge and after breakfast, you have the opportunity to take part in the tree planting project followed by an optional lunch with the local Abai villagers. Your afternoon is then free until the evening boat cruise searching for the nocturnal animals and birds that live within the forest. Overnight at the lodge

Day 8: Abai – Sepilok (B,L)

This morning you are free to view more birds and wildlife at the nature boardwalk before transferring by river boat to the Sepilok Nature Resort. Here you have time at leisure to witness the feeding of the Orangutans at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and learn more about these wonderful apes. You also have the chance to visit the Sun Bear Centre; a conservation centre for the world’s smallest bears who are in danger of becoming extinct. Overnight at Sepilok Nature Reserve.

Day 9: Sepilok Nature Reserve (B)

A further chance to visit the Orangutans and Sun Bears or maybe visit the Sepilok Discovery Centre where you can see and learn about the many unusual plant species of Borneo.

Day 10: Sepilok Nature Reserve – Gaya Island (B)

Today you will head back to the airport for the short flight to Kota Kinabalu where you will be taken to the jetty for the short speedboat ride over to Gaya Island and onto your resort

Day 11 & 12: Gaya Island (B)

2 days to relax on the beach at this beautiful resort, go snorkelling or diving on the reef (there is an onsite PADI dive centre), visit their Marine Research Centre or take up one of the many excursions available from Kota Kinabalu.

Day 13: Departure (B)

Transfer back to Kota Kinabalu to the airport for your international flight onwards.
