Day 1: Arrival at Gunung Mulu National Park

Pick up from the airport and transfer to Gunung Mulu National Park. In the afternoon, take a scenic plankwalk through primary rainforest to the entrance of Deer Cave, the world’s largest cave passage. Witness the “moon-like landscape” inside and visit the nearby Langs Cave to see delicate stalactites and stalagmites. At sundown, observe the spectacular exodus of approximately 2 million bats leaving the cave in search of food before trekking back by torchlight.

Day 2: Mulu Caves Exploration

Travel by longboat upriver to Wind Cave to see the “King’s Chamber” and its delicate lace-like formations. Continue to Clearwater Cave, where you can see unique flora like the one-leafed plant and photo-sensitive algae. Enjoy a swim in the shaded waters near the cave entrance before returning to the park headquarters.

Day 3: Mulu to Kuching

Transfer to the airport for your short flight to Kuching. Defined by its historic waterfront, Kuching is one of the cleanest cities in Asia. Enjoy a sunset stroll along the pedestrian promenade that snakes along the Sarawak River and discover why this city is considered a hidden gem.

Day 4: Bako National Park

Visit Bako National Park, one of the best places in Sarawak to see wildlife in a natural setting. Explore impressive forest types ranging from mangrove to heath forest while searching for Borneo’s endemic proboscis monkeys, silvered langurs, wild boar, and monitor lizards. The park’s coastline offers spectacular views of small bays, coves, and sea stacks.

Day 5: Kuching

Enjoy a day at leisure in Kuching (based on 3-night stay). Use this time to explore the local culture, taste the excellent food, or visit the Sarawak Museum near your hotel.

Day 6: Kuching to Nanga Sumpa

Drive to Batang Ai reservoir, stopping at Lachau Bazaar to visit a native market. Board a longboat to travel upriver to Nanga Sumpa Lodge, arriving mid-afternoon. In the evening, visit the Nanga Sumpa longhouse to relax on the ruai (common verandah), interact with the Iban community, and enjoy local rice wine.

Immerse yourself in the heart of Borneo at this jungle retreat nestled along the Delok River. Spend the day exploring the rich biodiversity, visiting nearby waterfalls, or learning about the cultural heritage of the Iban people.

Day 8: Nanga Sumpa to Lubok Kasai

Hike jungle trails along the river before continuing by longboat to the scenic Enseluai waterfall for a swim and a riverside BBQ lunch prepared by your Iban hosts. Trek for 1-2 hours through orangutan habitat to reach Lubok Kasai jungle camp on the banks of the Lalang River. Relax in the tranquil forest surroundings where orangutans are occasionally seen at dusk or dawn.

Day 9: Lubok Kasai to Kuching

Travel downriver to the Batang Ai Lake jetty and transfer overland back to Kuching, arriving in the late afternoon.

Visit the famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to see orangutans in their natural habitat and the nearby Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn about the world’s smallest bear. Explore the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) with its 147-meter-long canopy walkway, offering a bird’s-eye view of the jungle from 28 meters above the ground.

Day 12: Sepilok to Kinabatangan River

Transfer to the Sandakan jetty and cruise up the Lower Kinabatangan River, passing pristine mangrove forests. Arrive at Abai Jungle Lodge and explore the nature boardwalks. In the late afternoon, take a river cruise to spot proboscis monkeys, birds, and reptiles, followed by a night walk to witness fireflies and nocturnal wildlife.

Day 13: Abai Village and Pitas Lake

Take a dawn boat trip to Pitas Lake to spot wildlife as the sun rises. Visit Abai Village for a tour and a lunch hosted by a local family to learn about their eco-friendly initiatives. As dusk falls, enjoy another river cruise in search of wildlife before dinner.
