Discover Borneo’s incredible wildlife over the course of this 13-day tailor-made tour through Sabah. Encounter bizarre looking Proboscis Monkeys along the Kinabatangan River. Trek in the untouched jungles of the Tabin Wildlife Reserve. Meet the adorable orangutans at the Rehabilitation Centre in Sepilok. Finish with a few days to relax, swim and snorkel on idyllic Gaya Island.
Your jungle adventure is about to begin! Upon arrival at Sandakan Airport, you will be met and transferred by private vehicle to your resort. Evening at leisure.
The next day you will spend at the renowned Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, where orphaned and rescued orangutans are reintroduced into the wild. You’ll have the chance to observe these remarkable primates at their rainforest feeding stations and, if open, in the nursery where young orangutans learn vital survival skills.
After breakfast, transfer to Sandakan jetty for your boat journey to Selingan Island.
Selingan is the only island in the park where visitors can witness the turtle conservation process, offering a rare chance to see endangered green and hawksbill turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs. After arrival, spend the day snorkelling or exploring the island’s interior before joining a Park Ranger after dark to observe turtles nesting and hatchlings making their first journey to the sea.
Cruise up the Kinabatangan River to Abai, one of the best places in Borneo to see wildlife. Stay at Abai Jungle Lodge, tucked into the rainforest and only accessible by boat. In the afternoon, head out on a river safari to spot proboscis monkeys, exotic birds, and crocodiles. As night falls, watch the mangroves light up with fireflies before returning for dinner and a guided night walk to look for insects and other nocturnal animals.
After lunch, cruise upriver to Sukau, watching for wildlife along the way. Check into Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge, set right on the river and surrounded by jungle. Later, head out on a river safari to spot proboscis monkeys, hornbills, elephants, and possibly wild orangutans. Cool off in the lodge’s pool and enjoy dinner before settling in for the night.
Travel overland to Tabin Wildlife Reserve, a renowned haven for wildlife. Stay in a riverside or hilltop lodge surrounded by rainforest. After lunch, trek to the Lipad mud volcano to spot animal tracks and birdlife, then venture out after dark on a night safari to look for civet cats, tarsiers, and other nocturnal species.
Start your day with a peaceful walk by the river or a dip in the rock pool before saying farewell to Tabin. Later, transfer to Lahad Datu for your short flight to Kota Kinabalu, then take a speedboat to Gaya Island. Once there, enjoy days at leisure – go snorkelling, kayaking, take nature walks, or unwind with spa treatments and yoga in a serene mangrove setting. The island’s dive centre also offers diving experiences for all levels within the vibrant Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.
After breakfast, take the boat back to Jesselton Point, where you’ll be met and transferred to Kota Kinabalu Airport for your onward flight.
