Oman Desert Crossing

For those with a real spirit of adventure, this private, 4 night desert camping trip is a real treat. Starting from Muscat, you head south to the coastal town of Salalah, the once traditional and prosperous capital of the Dhofar region. However it’s not so much about the destination but the journey that’s the real experience

On this tour, you will enjoy wild camping in our semi-luxury tents surrounded by some of the best scenery the country has to offer. The tents are large and airy and designed along the lines of African safari tents with comfortable beds and separate bathroom tents. Your in-camp cook will provide meals and all drinks are included.

Day 1: Muscat / Sur / Ras Al Junayz (L/D)

Take the coastal road from Muscat to Rasa al Jinz Scientific Centre, via Sur and Wadi Shab. Enjoy your night-time turtle experience and overnight in the Centre.

Day 2: Khaluf (B/L/D)

Depart for Ras Al Ruways. Drive on the beach at low tide. After lunch, proceed to Bar Al Hikman, a haven for tens and thousands of small shore birds, a bird watchers fantasy. Dinner and enjoy your first night camping on the beach at Khaluf

Day 3: Ras Madrakhah (B/L/D)

Depart to Wadi Shuram. The road passes through a small oasis with palm trees and running water. Climb up the hill for a magnificent view across the desert wilderness. Proceed to Ras Madrakhah beach, a fantastic combination of dark rocks, white beach and blue ocean.

Day 4: Shuwaymiyah (B/L/D)

Depart to Qahal which is famous for its pink lagoons. Proceed to Wadi Shuwaymiyah where hyenas, camels, ibex and Gazelles can be spotted. This is indeed one of the most spectacular wadis in Oman where one is surrounded by towering mountains.

Day 5: Salalah (B/L)

Proceed to Salalah via Marmul. Reach Salalah and check into the hotel in Salalah (if requested). Lunch will be taken en-route.

• Camping & 4WD private transport as specified
• Meals and touring with driver/guide as specified in the itinerary
• B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner

Prices vary according to season and are per person based on two people sharing travelling together. Please ask us for more details and exclusions.

Please note:

This is a long overland trek, the distance covered exceeding 1,500 kms. It is a sea and sand holiday with a difference, the trip includes 5 consecutive nights with no comfortable hotels and no modern conveniences!

However, for those in good health and with the spirit of adventure, this overland camping expedition provides a wonderful opportunity to discover the ‘real’ Oman on an unforgettable coastal journey in the sun, and beneath an awe-inspiring canopy of stars.

Camping is possible in most locations. We have chosen specific spots and routes where we believe you will get the greatest delight from this fantastic product and worked to ensure that we can offer you the best service and prices in these places. Everything is offered on ad hoc basis and the minimum commitment is one tent.

We can also offer accommodation in Muscat at the start of the tour, and Salalah at the end. Please ask us for options.
