Immerse yourself in the rhythm and thriving art scene of Jerusalem & Amman. See the world wonder of Petra’s red city and the ancient Roman ruins of Jerash. Enjoy the beauty of the north and the vibrant beaches along the Mediterranean, swimming in the Dead Sea and relaxing in the sun.
This is a private itinerary, joining some daily group tours in Israel. Your holiday can be customised individually to suit your travel preferences.
Day 1: Arrival Tel Aviv
Arrive at Ben Gurion International Airport, Tel Aviv where you will be met by a representative from our ground agents in Israel and transferred to your hotel in the heart of the city.
Day 2: Caesarea – Haifa – Akko – Nazareth (B)
Today your guide and driver will meet you to drive along the coastal highway to Caesarea, which served as the capital of Israel during the Roman and Byzantine eras. This was once a great port town built by King Herod around 25BC, complete with a theatre, amphitheater, hippodrome, palace, Roman temple and an extensive network of aqueducts, along with an artificial harbour.
Pass through Haifa to view the Bahaii Gardens before continuing to Akko to visit the Crusader Halls and Tunnels, before arriving at your hotel in Nazareth.
Day 3: Tiberias – Capernaum – Jordan Valley – Jerusalem (B)
This morning you will visit the Church of the Annunciation before travelling on to Tiberias to visit Tabgha. This is where the Bible says Jesus performed the Miracle of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes, one of the only miracles that’s in all the gospels.
A short way up the lakeshore is Capernaum; see the ruins of this old fishing town, the site of two ancient synagogues and a church said to have been the home of Saint Peter. Drive to Jerusalem via the Jordan Valley and check-iin to your guesthouse.
Day 4 – Jerusalem – Bethlehem – Jerusalem
Today, visit the Mount of Olives for a panoramic view of the city. Then, see the Garden of Gethsemane, including the Church of All Nations, where Jesus is said to have prayed before his arrest. Visit the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem and walk along the Separation Wall and the Walled-Off Hotel. Back in Jerusalem, see St Anne’s church, the Pool of Bethesda, and walk the Way of the Cross to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Visit the Wailing Wall and walk along the restored Cardo in the Jewish Quarter before returning to your guesthouse.
Day 5: Jerusalem – Allenby Bridge – Amman, Jordan (B)
This morning you will be collected from your guesthouse and transferred to Allenby Bridge where you will cross the border to Jordan.
Upon arrival to Jordan, you will be met by a representative from our ground agents in Jordan. They will help you with your visa and immigration formalities before transferring you in a private vehicle to your hotel in Amman.
Day 6: Amman City Tour – Jerash – Amman (B)
Today you will start with a tour of Amman. The capital, spread over 19 hills, is a busy commercial centre with markets full of gold, spices and local handicrafts. Towering above the city stands the ancient Citadel and the regal columns of the Roman Temple of Hercules; nearby, the Roman theatre is still used for cultural events.
Continue to Jerash – this ancient city is acknowledged to be one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world.
Return to Amman and your hotel in late afternoon.
Day 7: Amman – Madaba – Mt. Nebo – Kerak – Petra (B)
Check out of your hotel after breakfast, your guide will pick you up and drive you south along the Kings’ Way, visiting Mt. Nebo and the alleged burial site of Moses overlooking the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley and Madaba with the oldest map of the Holy Land.
This afternoon your guide will transfer you to your hotel in Petra.
Tonight enjoy the wonderful Petra By Night Experience and see Petra as the ancient spice caravan travellers must have seen it, lit by thousands of candles.
Day 8: Petra (B)
After breakfast, your guide will meet you at your hotel to take you on a tour of Petra. Included is a 3-hour English speaking guide, the rest of the day is yours to explore Petra at leisure.
The city that was carved into the rose-red Sharah Mountains by the Nabateans and lost to Civilization until re-discovered by the Swiss Burkhardt.
Day 9: Petra – Wadi Rum (B, D)
Today you will be transfer to the magical desert of Wadi Rum. Venture in a 4WD vehicle into the Desert on a 2hr Jeep Safari and spend the night under the stars.
Wadi Rum, the largest and most magnificent of Jordan’s desert landscapes, described by Lawrence as “vast, echoing and God-like”. The sandstone mountains, matching the colour of knife-edged dunes, can be explored by off-road vehicle, by camel or on foot.
Day 10: Wadi Rum – Dead Sea (B)
Depart the dunes this morning for the Dead Sea.
The Dead Sea lies in the Great Rift Valley half, an hour from Amman, and is the lowest point on the surface of the earth, more than 400 metres below sea level. The exceptionally buoyant water, ten times saltier than the sea, is believed by many to have curative powers, hence the presence of several thermal spa hotels.
Day 11: Depature (B)
Today you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
