Ideal for those seeking adventure alongside cultural discovery, this jam-packed 4-day itinerary sees you hiking in El Cajas National Park, exploring Cuenca’s colonial architecture and visiting the fascinating ruins of Ingapirca.
This short trip includes a hike around “La Toreadora,”, admiring the flora and fauna, as well as chances to visit points of interest such as a Cañari indigenous market, the beautiful church of Biblián, or a local artisan who weaves hats and other objects out of toquilla straw.
This compact itinerary allows you to explore the diversity of Ecuador’s culture and natural landscapes as an ideal enhancement to any Galapagos or Ecuador adventure!
Day 1: Arrive Guayaquil
Arrive into Guayaquil airport (own flight arrangements). Take the hotel shuttle to your accommodation and check in for the night.
Day 2: Transfer to Cuenca / Hiking in El Cajas National Park (B)
After breakfast, meet your driver for the transfer to Cuenca.
This tour is ideal for those looking to travel between Cuenca and Guayaquil without missing out on the opportunity to visit Cajas National Park along the way.
El Cajas National Park is one of the largest wetland reserves in Ecuador and encompasses 30,000 hectares (116 square miles). This reserve has many different microclimates and ecosystems, making it an ideal home for many animals, especially birds and amphibians. We will hike around “La Toreadora,” one of the many lakes of the park, to appreciate the flora and fauna.
After this, we will continue through the Andes to reach Cuenca. Check into your accommodation and relax.
Day 3: Cuenca at leisure (B)
Day at leisure to explore Cuenca.
Cuenca is Ecuador’s third largest city and the economic center of the southern sierras, has long been known for a rich intellectual, artistic, and philosophical tradition that matches its colonial architecture.
The city is famous for its colorful festivals, distinct food, and breathtaking scenery. Because of its history and state of preservation, Cuenca is one of Ecuador’s three UNESCO World Heritage Trust sites (the others are Quito and the Galápagos Islands).
Day 4: Full Day Ingapirca Tour (B)
We will depart from Cuenca along the Pan-American Highway, with the chance to visit various points of interest such as a Cañari indigenous market (on Sundays), the beautiful church of Biblián, or a local artisan who weaves hats and other objects out of toquilla straw.
We continue to Ingapirca to learn more about the Incas. Located at the top of a hill with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, Ingapirca is the most important Incan complex in Ecuador.
