Travel deep into the heart of Colombia’s adventure playgrounds where you can hike, cycle, paddle, and swim your way around the magnificent natural surroundings. With a fantastic year-round climate, adventure travel in Colombia is an increasingly popular choice. On this tour, you’ll venture off the beaten track and take time to absorb all the countryside and coast has to offer.

Day 1: Fly to Bogota

Your guide will meet you at the airport and welcome you to Colombia. Take time to ask any questions about your upcoming trip and settle into your hotel in the city for an overnight stay. Your hotel will be located in a vibrant and safe corner of Bogota so you can use your free time to explore the neighbourhood at leisure.

Day 2: Bogotá. City Tour with Monserrate Hill & Paloquemao (L)

The tour starts with an early morning visit to the Paloquemao’s Market. This is a great introduction to daily life in the city and you can see or taste an impressive variety of flowers, exotic fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood, cheese, medicinal herbs as well as typical local food.

Afterwards visit the famous and well preserved historical colonial quarter of La Candelaria. Steeped in history, visit the prominent Plaza de Bolivar,  Cathedral, the Congress Palace, the Cardinal’s Palace, the colonial churches of El Sagrario and San Agustin, the Independence House, the Palace of Justice and the City Hall which are all located in this impressive square. You can also visit the “Museo del Oro”, the most important gold museum in the world and “Museo de Botero”, housed in a renovated colonial mansion.

Finally, take the tram to “Cerro de Monserrate” where you’ll enjoy sweeping views over the city.

Lunch is included at a local restaurant.

Day 3: Chicaque Excursion (B, L)

With more than 300 hectares of sub Andean forest, Chicaque is a natural reserve dedicated to environmental conservation and education, which keeps a significant sample of this area native vegetation. The reserve is located approximately two hours out of Bogotá, and you can discuss with your guide which of the many trails you’d like to hike to explore the region.

Day 4: Travel to Pereira (B)

Your guide will trasnfer you to the airport for your short flight to Pereira. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and get ready to explore “Zona Cafetera”, Colombia’s principal coffee-growing region.

Day 5: Filandia, Valle del Cocora and Salento (B,L)

After a quick visit to the traditional pueblo of Filandia, visit Quindío’s Viewpoint for an amazing view of the Coffee Triangle.

Continue with a visit to the beautiful Cocora Valley, home of the tallest palm trees in the world.

Be amazed by the natural beauty and diversity of fauna and flora that you will encounter throughout the valley. Once you arrive, you will be welcomed with a typical cocktail called “canelazo”. Afterwards you will visit the misty forest where our guide will explain to you the importance of protecting and conserving this beautiful ecosystem.  The tour continues with the “Ritual de la Palma”, a way to help preserve the wax palms. Visitors from all around the world have helped plant future wax palms at the park, you will also be able to grow your own palm tree for eternity.

Finally, enjoy lunch at the colouful village of Salento.

Day 6: Otún Quimbaya Wildlife Sanctuary  (B)

Visit Río Blanco, a natural reserve located 3 miles away from Manizales. This forest reserve is considered as one of the best birding sites of the country (especially for hummingbirds) and it is owned and protected by the water company of Manizales.

Day 7 – Pereira to Santa Marta (B)

Short flight to Santa Marta where you will be transfered through amazing scenery to Tayrona National Park. The contrasting ecosystems between mountain and sea present the prime place for adventure and fun.

Day 8 –  Walking to Arrecifes (B)

Head north of the city of Santa Marta for an amazing all day trek.

On this walk through the rainforest you can see different species of birds, monkeys, squirrels, peccary and other species in their natural habitat. After an hour’s walk you get to the beach Arrecifes (Reefs), with spectacular beauty, then continue to natural pools and a beach where you can swim in the Caribbean sea.

The hike continues for another 20 minutes until Piscina Natural (natural pool), beach on which you can swim and then visit the Cabo San Juan de Guía after another 25 minute walk away and where you’ll have lunch.

Day 9 – Taironaka  (B)

Taironaka is a natural and archaeological reserve whose territory extends over what was once an ancient Tayrona city. The walking trails through the reserve will take you through the history of this thriving civilization. Know the drainage systems, terraces, stairs, houses and relive the daily life of the people that inhabited this territory for over 1.000 years touring the Tayrona Museum, which features more than 300 authentic pieces of pottery.

Day 10 –   Private Transfer Santa Marta to Cartagena (B)

Make the journey part of the adventure as you transfer by road to Cartagena.

Day 11 – Bike Tour in Cartagena (B)

Discover Cartagena’s rich history and beautiful colonial architecture where you will admire the old houses, stunning balconies and different little squares. You will know more about the culture of Cartagena and its interesting architecture as you cycle through the different cobbled streets and plazas.

The tour includes a Panoramic visit to the the “Castillo de San Felipe”. This castle was built by the Spaniards in the 1600s and it is the greatest and strongest fortress ever built in a Spanish colony.

Day 12 – Boquilla Mangroves + Getsemani   (B)

The tour begins with a visit to “La Boquilla”, an old fishing village located twenty minutes north from the city. This community was once a slave colony and it has been home to many Afro-Colombian inhabitants.

Explore the surrounding beaches and mangroves on a traditional wooden canoe.

After this visit, you will enjoy a walking tour through the Getsemaní district, an outer walled neighbourhood with Spanish colonial architecture. This area offers so much to do and see which makes visitors easily fall in love with the charm and style of Getsemaní.

Day 13: Departure

Transfer to the airport for your homeward flight.
