Zambia Kafunta, Chongwe & Waterberry

£7,230.00

An 8-day South Luangwa safari built around the Luangwa River and the park’s famous mix of game drives, night drives and walking. Start at Mfuwe Lodge near the main gate, where lagoons and riverine woodland pull wildlife close, then move deeper into the park to a Bushcamp Company camp for a more remote, classic bush setting. The focus stays on time in the field, with the flexibility to shape each day around where animals are moving and what the season is doing.

Day 1: Lusaka – South Luangwa National Park

Meet and assist on arrival in Lusaka, then take a scheduled flight to Mfuwe and transfer into South Luangwa. Settle in on the edge of the floodplain, with time to take in the views and ease into the valley. Overnight at Kafunta River Lodge.

Day 2: South Luangwa National Park

Safari time from Kafunta, with the park accessed away from the busier Mfuwe gate area. Head out on game drives and, if you want, add a bush walk, keeping the day shaped around what is moving on the floodplain and along the river line. Overnight at Kafunta River Lodge.

Day 3: South Luangwa National Park

Final morning in the Kafunta area, then transfer deeper into the park to Island Bush Camp, travelling through woodland and riverine landscapes. Arrive to a small riverbank camp under mahogany trees, with walking safaris at the core and riverfront viewing from camp. Overnight at Island Bush Camp.

Day 4: South Luangwa National Park

Full day based at Island Bush Camp, built around escorted bush walks, with the option to blend walks and drives depending on conditions. The emphasis is slow-paced tracking and time on foot, using the river edge and nearby habitats to read wildlife movement. Overnight at Island Bush Camp.

Day 5: South Luangwa National Park

Another full day to continue walking safaris and any complementary game drives, using the day to work whichever areas are most productive. Time in camp is part of the experience, with a strong riverfront focus and regular wildlife passing through. Overnight at Island Bush Camp.

Day 6: South Luangwa National Park – Lower Zambezi National Park

Fly from Mfuwe to Royal, then continue into Lower Zambezi National Park and settle in at Time + Tide Chongwe Camp, set along the Chongwe River where it meets the Zambezi. Begin activities in a landscape of riverine woodland and floodplain, with game often concentrated along the valley floor and river edge. Overnight at Time + Tide Chongwe Camp.

Day 7: Lower Zambezi National Park

Full day at Chongwe, mixing land and water activities depending on what suits the conditions. Options here include game drives, walking safaris, and time on the river by boat or canoe, with a wildlife hide for quieter viewing and photography. Overnight at Time + Tide Chongwe Camp.

Day 8: Lower Zambezi National Park

Continue safari time in Lower Zambezi, with the flexibility to balance drives and walks with river time. If you want to fish, the camp lists fishing among the activities, with tiger fishing noted as an option in the area. Overnight at Time + Tide Chongwe Camp.

Day 9: Lower Zambezi National Park – Livingstone

Fly from Royal to Livingstone, then transfer to Waterberry Lodge on the Zambezi upriver from Victoria Falls. Settle in for a slower river setting, with time to relax at the lodge or start shaping your Livingstone and falls plans. Overnight at Waterberry Lodge.

Day 10: Livingstone

Day based at Waterberry Lodge. Use the day for Victoria Falls and Livingstone activities, or keep it local with river time and lodge-led options such as birding and gentle outings on the Zambezi. Some activities in this area carry additional costs, depending on what you choose. Overnight at Waterberry Lodge.

Day 11: Livingstone – Departure

Transfer from Waterberry Lodge to the airport for your onward travel.
