Flamingo Safari

£3,945.00

A 10-day northern Tanzania journey that blends big-name safari country with one of the Rift Valley’s strangest landscapes. Start around Tarangire for classic game drives, then break the rhythm with two nights at Lake Natron: a mineral-rich, heat-baked lake beneath Ol Doinyo Lengai, famous for its lesser flamingos and stark volcanic scenery. From there, head deep into the Serengeti, with full days in the Northern sector and then the Central plains, before finishing in the highland farmland of Karatu for a full Ngorongoro Crater day.

Day 1: Lake Burunge

Depart Arusha for Tarangire National Park and ease into the safari with an afternoon game drive, working the river and baobab-dotted plains for elephants and other resident wildlife. As the light drops, continue on towards Lake Burunge for your first night in the northern circuit. Overnight at Lake Burunge Tented Lodge (Full Board).

Day 2: Lake Burunge

Spend a full day on game drives in Tarangire, with time to cover different habitats and follow whatever is moving well on the day. Expect classic northern Tanzania scenery and the chance to build sightings steadily across morning and afternoon. Overnight at Lake Burunge Tented Lodge (Full Board).

Day 3: Lake Natron

After breakfast, depart for Lake Natron with a picnic lunch, swapping safari plains for the Rift Valley’s volcanic edge. The drive feels more remote and arid as you get closer, with Ol Doinyo Lengai dominating the skyline and the lake’s mineral landscapes setting a very different tone. Overnight at Natron River Camp (Full Board).

Day 4: Lake Natron

Full day at Lake Natron for activities in and around this stark, heat-baked landscape. Time is flexible for exploring the surrounding terrain and viewpoints, taking in the lake’s strange colours and, in the right conditions, spotting lesser flamingos in their natural stronghold. Overnight at Natron River Camp (Full Board).

Day 5: Northern Serengeti

Depart with a picnic lunch for the Northern Serengeti, enjoying a game drive en route as the scenery opens into wide savannah and acacia country. Depending on where wildlife is concentrating, you may spend time near riverine areas and key viewing zones before reaching camp. Overnight at Mara Kati Kati Tented Camp (Full Board).

Day 6: Northern Serengeti

Full day game drives in the Northern Serengeti, focusing on the most productive areas on the day rather than rushing between points. This is big-country safari driving, with strong chances of plains game and predators, plus the option to track wildlife along river systems where animals congregate. Overnight at Mara Kati Kati Tented Camp (Full Board).

Day 7: Central Serengeti

After breakfast, proceed to the Central Serengeti and the Seronera area, then head out for an afternoon game drive once you arrive. The central plains are classic Serengeti scenery, with kopjes, open grassland and river lines that can produce excellent mixed sightings. Overnight at Serengeti Kati Kati (Full Board).

Day 8: Karatu

After breakfast, depart for Karatu and Ngorongoro Farm House, climbing into greener highland farmland as you leave the Serengeti behind. The afternoon is at leisure, a welcome reset before the crater day, with time to relax and enjoy the change in pace and landscape. Overnight at Ngorongoro Farm House (Full Board).

Day 9: Karatu

Full day Ngorongoro Crater tour with picnic lunches, descending to the crater floor for concentrated wildlife viewing across open plains, wetlands and woodland pockets. It’s one of the strongest single-day game-viewing areas in northern Tanzania, with the chance to pick up a wide spread of species in a short time. Overnight at Ngorongoro Farm House (Full Board).
