Rwanda Gorilla Safari

Day 1: Kigali

Arrive at Kigali International Airport, meet your representative for a safari briefing, then transfer to your hotel. If you have time, Kigali is easy to get a feel for in an afternoon: browse the markets and craft shops, grab a coffee or dinner in the centre, and take in the city’s hills and viewpoints before settling in. Overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel.

Day 2: Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, set out on a Kigali city tour including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Centre, followed by lunch. Continue north-west on a scenic drive through Rwanda’s green hills and terraced farmland to Ruhengeri, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park, with views building as you approach the Virunga range. Overnight at Virunga Inn Resort & Spa.

Day 3: Volcanoes National Park

Early start for the park headquarters briefing, then drive to the trailhead and begin gorilla trekking. Porters can be hired to carry daypacks and gear, which is often worth it given the terrain. The route typically starts in the cultivated foothills before pushing into forest, where conditions can be wet and muddy. After the trek, return for lunch, then head out to the Twin Lakes (Ruhondo and Bulera) and choose between the local crafts market or the Ibyiwacu Cultural Village before returning to the lodge. Overnight at Virunga Inn Resort & Spa.

Day 4: Departure

After breakfast, drive back to Kigali past banana plantations and steep green hillsides, then transfer to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight. If timings allow, your driver-guide can usually help you factor in a final coffee stop or short last look around the city before check-in.
