Day 1: Cape Town

Board Rovos Rail in Cape Town and begin the journey inland through the winelands of the Western Cape towards Worcester. Later, the train climbs the escarpment, making for a strong opening stretch before dinner on board and the first tunnels of the route.

Day 2: Matjiesfontein

Disembark at Matjiesfontein for time to explore the historic village, including its railway atmosphere, museum and collection of old cars and carriages. Back on board, the journey continues across the Karoo, whose vast semi-desert landscape gives the route much of its character.

Day 3: Kimberley

Today’s main excursion is in Kimberley, where the Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole reflect the city’s central place in South Africa’s diamond history. Later, rejoin the train and continue across the grassland plains of the Highveld.

Day 4: Pretoria

Spend the final morning on board as the train crosses the goldfields of the Witwatersrand before arriving at Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria, where the journey comes to an end.
