Day 1: Pretoria
Depart from Rovos Rail Station, Pretoria. Travel south across the goldfields of the Witwatersrand.
Day 2: Kimberley
Tour Kimberley’s Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole, the historic centre of South Africa’s diamond rush. Travel onwards through the Karoo.
Day 3: Upington and the Orange River border – Nakop, South Africa / Ariamsvlei, Namibia
Walking tour of Upington followed by a sundowner cruise on the Orange River.
Day 4: Fish River Canyon
Travel along the southern reaches of the Kalahari Basin. Transfer (about 60 minutes) to the Fish River Canyon for views over the vast rocky cliffs of the southern hemisphere’s largest canyon.
Day 5: Kolmanskop and Lüderitz
Transfer (about 60 minutes) to the ghost town of Kolmanskop, then lunch in Lüderitz with time for its colonial-era character and coastal wildlife possibilities.
Day 6: Keetmanshoop and Garas Park
Visit Keetmanshoop and Garas Park to see the quiver trees, with strong photographic opportunities among the Aloe dichotomy specimens.
Day 7: Sossusvlei
Pack a small overnight bag for Sossusvlei. Transfer to the airstrip and fly by light aircraft (about 1 hour) to a Sossusvlei lodge for overnight. Lunch, then leisure time, followed by an afternoon desert drive and a bush dinner after sunset. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 8: Sossusvlei and Windhoek
Early wake-up for a desert drive with breakfast in the vlei. Return to the lodge, then transfer to the airstrip and fly (about 1 hour) to Windhoek. Lunch at Windhoek Country Club, then a city tour including museums and key landmarks, before departing for Kranzberg.
Day 9: Cheetah Conservation Project
Transfer (about 60 minutes) to a cheetah conservation project in Otjiwarongo. Depart for Otavi.
Day 10: Etosha National Park
Pack a small overnight bag for Etosha. Transfer (about 60 minutes) to an Etosha lodge for overnight. Lunch and check-in, then an afternoon game drive (about 3 hours). Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 11: Etosha National Park
Breakfast, then a morning game drive in Etosha. Return to the lodge to freshen up and check out, then transfer (about 60 minutes) to the train at Tsumeb Station as the journey turns southwest towards the Atlantic.
Day 12: Walvis Bay
Traverse the Namib Desert towards Walvis Bay. Arrive in Walvis Bay, Namibia.

The train
Accommodation carriages, dining and lounge cars, gift shop, smoking lounge and an observation car with an open-air balcony. Suite categories include Pullman / Pullman Gold, Deluxe and Royal, all with double or twin beds, ensuite bathroom with shower, minibar, safe, air conditioning, linen and amenities, and daily servicing. Royal suites include a bath.
