Red Kalahari dunes, the desert drama of Sossusvlei and Sesriem, Swakopmund’s cooler coastal edge, Damaraland’s raw geology and ancient rock art, and Etosha’s waterhole wildlife give the trip both range and real character. Vast, visually arresting and full of contrast, it is an excellent introduction to Namibia.

Day 1: Windhoek

Arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport and transfer by private vehicle to your accommodation. The rest of the day is free to settle in, explore the city’s landmarks, or simply recover from your flight. Overnight at Utopia Boutique on bed and breakfast (Standard Room or similar).

Day 2: Windhoek to Kalahari Desert

After breakfast, meet and greet for your vouchers, maps and travel pack, then collect your 4×4 (Double Cab 4×4 or similar) and begin your self-drive south towards the Kalahari. Arrive at your lodge with time to unwind by the pool, take in the red-dune scenery, or join an optional sundowner drive. Overnight at Kalahari Anib Lodge in a CAMPING2GO Tent on dinner, bed and breakfast (or similar).

Day 3: Kalahari Desert to Sesriem

Drive west towards Sesriem and the Namib Desert, with wide-open plains, distant mountains and changing desert colours as you go. Arrive in the early afternoon and spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying the calm desert setting before tomorrow’s early start. Overnight at Hammerstein Lodge on dinner, bed and breakfast (Standard Room or similar).

Day 4: Sesriem

An early departure is recommended to experience Sossusvlei in the best light and cooler temperatures. Explore the dunes and pans, with time for Dead Vlei’s stark camelthorn trees and the big, open silence that makes this area so memorable. Return to the lodge later in the day to relax after the heat. Overnight at Hammerstein Lodge on dinner, bed and breakfast (Standard Room or similar).

Day 5: Sesriem to Solitaire

Enjoy a slower morning, then continue to the Namib Dune Star Camp. On arrival you can join a guided dune walk (around 45 minutes) to get a feel for the surrounding landscape before sunset. Overnight at Namib Dune Star Camp on dinner, bed and breakfast (Standard Room).

Day 6: Solitaire to Swakopmund

Travel towards the Atlantic coast, with the option to stop at Solitaire’s bakery en route. The route takes you past the scale of the Namib Naukluft National Park, then on to the cooler air of the coast via Walvis Bay and its lagoon, known for birdlife including flamingos. Overnight at Desert Jackal Guesthouse on bed and breakfast (Standard Room or similar).

Day 7: Swakopmund

A full free day in Swakopmund to do as much or as little as you like. Choose from adventure activities such as sandboarding and quad biking, coastal walks, or time in town for cafes, galleries and local shops. Overnight at Desert Jackal Guesthouse on bed and breakfast (Standard Room or similar).

Day 8: Swakopmund to Twyfelfontein

Leave the coast behind and head inland into Damaraland, a region of rugged mountains, rocky plains and a real sense of space. Settle in and prepare for the area’s highlights, including the UNESCO-listed rock engravings at Twyfelfontein. Overnight at Madisa Camp on dinner, bed and breakfast (Safari Tent or similar).

Day 9: Twyfelfontein to Etosha National Park

Travel via Outjo towards Etosha, arriving at the southern entrance region and checking into your lodge. The afternoon is well suited to a first easy drive or time to relax and get ready for full safari days ahead. Overnight at Etosha Omusati Lodge on dinner, bed and breakfast (Bungalow or Bush Chalet or similar).

Day 10: Etosha National Park

Spend the day exploring Etosha at your own pace by self-drive, stopping at waterholes to watch wildlife gather, or join a guided drive from the lodge for local insight. Expect big open skies, salt pan scenery and the chance of elephant, lion, giraffe, rhino and large antelope herds. Overnight at Etosha Omusati Lodge on dinner, bed and breakfast (Bungalow or Bush Chalet or similar).

Day 11: Etosha National Park

Travel through Etosha towards Mushara Bush Camp, using the route as a game-viewing day with stops at waterholes along the way. This is a strong chance for classic Etosha sightings against the backdrop of savannah, pan and acacia woodland. Overnight at Mushara Bush Camp on dinner, bed and breakfast (Tent or similar).

Day 12: Etosha National Park to Waterberg Plateau

Enjoy a leisurely morning at camp, then travel via Otjiwarongo to the Waterberg region. The landscape shifts again here, with the plateau’s red sandstone cliffs and a different mix of wildlife and scenery to round off the trip. Overnight at Waterberg Valley Lodge on dinner, bed and breakfast (Standard Room or similar).

Day 13: Departure

Drive back towards Windhoek. If time allows, pass through Okahandja for its woodcarving markets and craft stalls, then continue on to Windhoek where your journey ends or connects onward.
