Namibia Guided Tour

Day 1: Windhoek

Upon your arrival at the Hosea Kutako International Airport, you are met by your personal tour guide.

Windhoek is considerably enhanced by stately historical buildings of German architectural style. These buildings lend a singular charm to the city and include the historic seat of government also known as the Tintenpalast. The Christuskirche provides the city with a striking landmark, and the white-walled Alte Feste (a fort turned museum) reflects Namibia’s history.

Dinner can be enjoyed in one of the many excellent restaurants in Windhoek (not included in package).

Day 2: Windhoek to Kalahari Desert

After breakfast, depart from Windhoek in a southerly direction, driving via Rehoboth to the heart of the Kalahari Desert.

In the late afternoon you could book a guided sundowner tour in the red dunes of the Kalahari Desert (not included in package).

Day 3: Kalahari Desert to Sesriem

This morning, make your way via Mariental and Maltahöhe to the Desert Hills Lodge, situated in the heart of the Namib Desert.

One of the oldest deserts in the world and possibly even the very oldest, the Namib Desert was already arid at least 80 million years ago. In the south it extends into South Africa across the Orange River, while in the north it crosses the Kunene into Angola.

Afternoon at leisure. Meals will be enjoyed at the nearby Sossusvlei Lodge.

Day 4: Sesriem

Visit the famous dunes at Sossusvlei and explore the unique Sesriem Canyon. Alternatively, you could book a guided Sossusvlei excursion at the lodge (optional).

The Sossusvlei is a wonderland, with towering dunes reaching up to 300 meters, surrounding a huge, dried-up pan. These dunes extend as far as the eye can see with rich tints of pale apricot, vivid reds and oranges. The Sesriem Canyon lies at the entrance, where centuries of erosion have incised a narrow gorge of around 1 kilometer in length.

Day 5: Sesriem to Swakopmund

Your journey continues through the Namib Naukluft National Park. En-route you can stop at Solitaire, where you can enjoy some of their apple pie, which is famous in Namibia (optional – not included in package).

Continue to Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, where you stay at the Driftwood Guesthouse.

After arrival in Swakopmund, your tour guide will take you on a tour through Swakopmund before you check-in at the guesthouse. Afterwards you could take a stroll on the beach or you could explore Swakopmund on foot.

Day 6: Swakopmund

This day is free to you to spend at leisure. There are numerous optional activities offered in and around Swakopmund and Walvis Bay which you could participate in.

Day 7: Swakopmund to Twyfelfontein

From the cool coastal air you will turn to the inland heat of the Damaraland today.

The Damaraland lies in the dry, north-western region of Namibia. It acts as a sanctuary to desert-dwelling elephants and offers some of the most dramatic scenery in the country – rugged mountains, expansive gravel plains and sweeping river valleys.

Day 8: Twyfelfontein

Spend the day exploring the surroundings attractions like Twyfelfontein, the Organ Pipes and the Burnt Mountain.

Twyfelfontein lies to the west of Khorixas and resembles a large, open-air art gallery. This treasure house of engravings, left by stone-age artists, is regarded as one of the richest collections in Africa.

Just south of Twyfelfontein is the Burnt Mountain, a panorama of desolation with colored rocks contrasting vividly against the grey-black surroundings. The Organ Pipes, a mass of basalt slabs in a ravine gouged out by a river, is a geological curiosity of the area.

Day 9: Twyfelfontein to Etosha National Park

Driving via the small towns of Khorixas and Outjo, you venture toward the southern border of the Etosha National Park. After checking in at the Kifaru Luxury Tented Lodge, you have the opportunity to do your first game drive in the Etosha National Park with your guide or you could book one of the optional activities offered by the lodge (optional – not included in package).

Day 10: Etosha National Park

Spend the day exploring the Etosha National Park.

The Etosha National Park, consisting miles of saline desert, savannah and woodlands, is one of the largest parks in Africa. Its definitive feature is the Etosha Pan, a vast, shallow depression. For the greater part of the year, the pan is a bleak expanse of white cracked mud which shimmers with mirages.

It is seeing vast herds of game with this eerie “great white place of dry water” as a backdrop which makes the Etosha experience unique. A total of about 114 mammal species and many bird species are found in the park.

Day 11: Etosha National Park to Waterberg Plateau National Park

Via Outjo and Otjiwarongo you travel to the Waterberg Plateau National Park.

Rising some 200 meters above a surrounding sea of African bush and savannah, the Waterberg Plateau, with its flamboyant brick-red sandstone formations and lush green vegetation, presents an island of vibrant color. Home to some 25 game species, over 200 bird species.

Day 12: Departure

After a leisurely breakfast, depart from the Okonjima Nature Reserve and head back to Windhoek, via Okahandja. After arriving in Windhoek, your tour guide will take you to the Hosea Kutako International Airport, in time for your departure flight.
