Madagascar Andasibe and Tsara Komba

An 8-day Madagascar journey that pairs the eastern rainforests of Andasibe with a slower island finish on Nosy Komba. Start in Antananarivo, then travel east for guided time in Mantadia National Park and the Perinet Reserve, with a strong lemur and bird focus plus night walks for nocturnal species. From there, fly north to Nosy Be and cross by boat to Tsara Komba Lodge for a few days of chosen activities and downtime, before returning to Nosy Be for your onward flight.
Day 1: Antananarivo
Arrive into Ivato Airport and meet your English-speaking guide, then transfer to your hotel in Antananarivo. Time to settle in, use the pool, and take in views over the city before dinner. Overnight at Maison Gallieni.
Day 2: Antananarivo – Andasibe
Drive east to Andasibe, a rainforest area built around the Perinet Special Reserve and Mantadia National Park. The route gives a first look at rural Madagascar, with rice fields, redbrick houses and roadside stalls along the way. Check in for lunch, then visit a private reserve run by the local NGO Mitsinjo, which supports reforestation and community education and runs Madagascar’s first amphibian captive-breeding facility. Walk the reserve trails for wildlife, with the option to plant an indigenous species on the reforestation trail. Overnight at Mantadia Lodge.
Day 3: Andasibe
After breakfast, travel to Mantadia National Park with a picnic lunch. Walk the forest trails in search of lemurs including Indri indri, diademed sifaka, grey bamboo lemur, red-bellied lemur and white ruffed lemur. Birding can include species such as scaly ground-roller, pitta-like ground-roller and red-breasted coua. Picnic by the Rianasoa Waterfall, then return to the lodge. A late evening night walk is organised in the forest around the reserve with a local guide, looking for nocturnal lemurs including mouse lemurs, white-footed sportive lemur, fat-tailed dwarf lemur and woolly lemur. Overnight at Mantadia Lodge.
Day 4: Andasibe – Antananarivo
After breakfast, visit the Perinet Reserve with a local guide in search of Indri indri, then continue walking the rainforest for other lemurs such as grey bamboo lemur, common brown lemur, diademed sifaka and black and white ruffed lemur. Birdwatching targets can include velvet asity, blue coua and nuthatch vanga, with time for reptiles, invertebrates and orchids along the trails. Return to your hotel for lunch, then drive back to Antananarivo. Overnight at Nosy Manga.
Day 5: Antananarivo – Nosy Be – Nosy Komba
After breakfast, transfer to Ivato Airport for your flight to Nosy Be. On arrival, meet a Tsara Komba staff member and transfer onwards by road and boat to the lodge on Nosy Komba. Settle into the lodge and your ocean view room, with the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at Tsara Komba Lodge.
Day 6: Nosy Komba
Day at leisure, with time to choose activities arranged by the lodge. Options include customised excursions to neighbouring islands and nature reserves, fishing, quad biking, island tours, scuba-diving or snorkelling. Overnight at Tsara Komba Lodge.
Day 7: Nosy Komba
Another full day to continue with your chosen activities or take the day slowly around the lodge and beach. Overnight at Tsara Komba Lodge.
Day 8: Nosy Komba – Departure
Transfer by boat back to Nosy Be for your international outbound flight.
