Great East Africa Migration

£7,235.00

Follow the Great Migration’s most iconic corridor on this 12-day Kenya-and-Tanzania safari, built around the places that reliably deliver: elephant herds beneath Kilimanjaro in Amboseli, a full day inside the natural amphitheatre of Ngorongoro Crater, big-cat country in the central Serengeti, then a strong finish in Kenya’s Mara North Conservancy with a full-day foray into the Maasai Mara National Reserve. You travel overland with an English-speaking driver-guide, break the long distances with scheduled bush flights, and stay in well-positioned lodges and camps that keep you close to the action, not marooned on the wrong side of the map.

Day 1: Nairobi

Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, meet your Odyssey Travel representative for a short safari briefing, then transfer to Eka Hotel. Overnight at Eka Hotel.

Day 2: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

After breakfast, drive to Amboseli and arrive for lunch. With Kilimanjaro often looming on the horizon, ease into safari rhythm with time for a swim or siesta, then head out for an afternoon game drive when the light softens and the animals start moving again. Overnight at Ol Tukai Lodge.

Day 3: Amboseli National Park

A full safari day with morning and afternoon game drives. An early start gives you the best chance of crisp Kilimanjaro views and peak wildlife activity before the heat rises, then you return to the lodge for downtime and a second drive later on. Overnight at Ol Tukai Lodge.

Day 4: Amboseli to Karatu via Namanga and Arusha

Drive to Namanga for the Kenya-Tanzania border crossing, where your Tanzania driver-guide meets you. Continue to Arusha for lunch at Arusha Coffee Lodge, then climb into the greener northern highlands to Karatu, well placed for Ngorongoro. Overnight at The Plantation Lodge.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater

An early start for a full day on the crater floor, a natural enclosure with dense wildlife viewing and strong Big Five potential. You return to the lodge before dusk, with enough time to freshen up before dinner. Overnight at The Plantation Lodge.

Day 6: Karatu to Serengeti (Seronera) via Olduvai Gorge

Drive into the Serengeti with a stop at Olduvai Gorge for a tour and lecture, then continue onto the central plains around Seronera, a perennial wildlife hotspot and a key section of the Great Migration route. Arrive at camp, settle in, and let the sounds of the bush take over. Overnight at Siringit Serengeti Camp.

Day 7: Serengeti (Seronera)

Morning and afternoon game drives in an area known for big cats, plains game, elephant, giraffe, hippo, and a surprising amount of birdlife. Overnight at Siringit Serengeti Camp.

Day 8: Serengeti (Seronera)

Another full safari day to follow fresh tracks and build on yesterday’s sightings. If you want a different perspective, a hot air balloon safari can be arranged at additional cost. Overnight at Siringit Serengeti Camp.

Day 9: Serengeti to Mara North Conservancy

After breakfast, fly to Tarime Airstrip near the Tanzania-Kenya border, then transfer by road to Migori Airstrip for your onward flight into the Maasai Mara. On arrival, your camp guide takes you on your first safari en route to camp. Check in, enjoy lunch with views towards the Mara River, then head out for an afternoon game drive in the conservancy. Overnight at Karen Blixen Camp.

Day 10: Mara North Conservancy

Spend the day on game drives in the conservancy, where controlled numbers often mean better positioning and longer time on sightings. You can also join a guided eco walk, visit the on-site cooking school, and, depending on timing, the bead project. A night game drive in the conservancy is included. Overnight at Karen Blixen Camp.

Day 11: Maasai Mara National Reserve

Wake to the bush and head into the Maasai Mara National Reserve for a full-day safari with a picnic lunch, focusing on the classic Mara landscapes and the day’s best movement. Return to camp late afternoon. Overnight at Karen Blixen Camp.
