Ethiopia Nature & Wildlife Safari Tour
£2,420.00
A 6-day Ethiopia circuit combining the Simien Mountains and Bale Mountains, with flights that keep the focus on time in the parks rather than long road days. Expect guided walks and hikes through high-altitude scenery, with good chances of gelada baboons in Simien and time in Bale’s plateau and forest habitats where Ethiopian wolf sightings are possible.
Day 1: Addis Ababa – Gondar – Simien Mountains National Park
Fly to Gondar and meet your guide on arrival, then drive north towards Simien Mountains National Park. En route, stop in Debark to handle park entry formalities and collect the required local scout. Continue to the Chequanit area via the park gate, then begin your first trek, walking through cultivated highland terrain as the scenery starts to sharpen into the Simien escarpments. Around Sankaber, you may see your first gelada baboons, often in large, relaxed troops. Overnight at Simien Lodge.
Day 2: Simien Mountains National Park
A full day on foot in the Simien highlands, trekking through a mix of meadow, forest and higher open ground. The route takes you towards a major waterfall area and into wildlife zones where sightings can include Walia ibex and Ethiopian wolves. Expect changing viewpoints as you move between ridgelines and valleys, with the best moments often coming when the landscape opens suddenly and the escarpment drops away. Overnight at Simien Lodge.
Day 3: Simien Mountains National Park – Gondar – Addis Ababa
Take a final short walk in the park, then drive back to Gondar for your flight to Addis Ababa. Overnight at Golden Tulip Hotel.
Day 4: Addis Ababa – Goba – Bale Mountains National Park
Fly to Goba and continue to Dinsho, the Bale Mountains National Park headquarters. Take a short hike around the HQ area, which is a reliable place to see highland wildlife such as Menelik’s bushbuck, mountain nyala and warthog. Continue onwards to the Senatte Plateau for a guided walk across the afro-alpine landscape, with the possibility of Ethiopian wolf sightings and views over the open highlands. Proceed to the Rira area for the night. Overnight at Bale Mountains Lodge.
Day 5: Bale Mountains National Park
A day focused on the Harenna side of Bale, hiking through forested terrain and bamboo corridors towards a waterfall area. This section of the park has a different feel to the plateau, with thicker vegetation, deeper gullies and more birdlife, plus the chance of sightings such as colobus monkeys. The walking is about varied scenery and habitat contrast as much as it is about any single viewpoint. Overnight at Bale Mountains Lodge.
Day 6: Bale Mountains National Park – Goba – Addis Ababa
Transfer to Goba for your flight back to Addis Ababa, then onward transfer to your next stop. End of trip.
