New archaeological discoveries made in Jordan

An ancient Roman burial tomb and ruins have been discovered in Jordan.

It has been an exciting year of discoveries for Jordan. Earlier this year, a huge monument was found buried beneath the sand near the rose-hued city of Petra and now an ancient Roman tomb and beautiful frescoes have been uncovered in the northern town of Beit Ras.

Within the tomb archaeologists have uncovered two burial chambers, complete with human bones, etched lion heads and wonderful oil-frescoes on the walls depicting horses, mythological scenes, agricultural life and human figures.

Although the newest find is currently closed to visitors while excavations continue, these two finds are just tiny snapshots of the wealth of history and culture that Jordan offers to visitors. Combine that with imposing Crusader castles, Madaba – the city of mosaics, ancient roman cities like Jerash and Aljoun, the alleged burial site of Moses, Petra, the mystical landscape of the Wadi Rum Desert and the tranquil waters of the Dead Sea and you have a fascinating journey through history as you make your way around the country.
