Karen’s Top Tips for travelling around Asia
Our newest member and Asia Specialist Karen shares some of the things she learned while travelling around the huge continent.
Having spent close to a year travelling around Asia on her own, Karen knows what she’s talking about.
She’s covered a fair bit of the vast continent including China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos so if you’re thinking about planning a trip and want some advice, give Karen a call on 01453 883937. She’d love to chat through your plans and come up with an itinerary just for you.
To start you off, she’s put together her Top 5 Tips for travelling around Asia:
1. The markets are great for a bit of haggling practice – it’s expected but keep it within reason. It’s someone’s livelihood too.
2. Pack light – bespoke clothes can be handmade for you by local crafts people very quickly. Plus you’ll want to fill your baggage allowance with souvenirs and gifts you’ve picked up (and haggled for) along the way.
3. Long sleeved shirts are a must! They help fend off those pesky mosquitoes and are good for covering up in temples as a sign of respect.
4. Pack a head torch for those off-the-beaten-track moments. When you’re in the wilderness anything can happen. Including no electricity. So pack a torch just in case.
5. Asia is an experience. And hopefully a wonderful one. But if things don’t go to plan, keep calm and carry on travelling. And remember, here at Odyssey World we have a 24 hour emergency help line number should you ever need us.
