This 13-day itinerary takes you from Casablanca and Rabat to Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fez, the Sahara, Ouarzazate and Marrakesh, combining Morocco’s Atlantic cities, mountain towns, Roman ruins and desert landscapes in one varied route. It moves from medinas and imperial landmarks to camel rides, kasbahs and Atlas scenery, with time for both cultural depth and the more cinematic side of southern Morocco. Fez and Marrakesh anchor the journey, but the desert section gives it real range.
Day 1: Casablanca
Arrive in Casablanca and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free, giving you time to settle in before the journey begins.
Day 4: Tangier – Chefchaouen
Leave Tangier for Chefchaouen, the Rif Mountain town known for its blue-washed streets and relaxed pace. The afternoon is devoted to its medina and kasbah, with time to take in one of Morocco’s most distinctive settings.
Day 5: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes
Depart Chefchaouen and head south to Volubilis, where Morocco’s best-known Roman ruins add a completely different historical layer to the journey. Continue via Meknes, one of the imperial cities, before arriving in Fez for the next stage of the itinerary.
Day 6: Fez
Spend the day in Fez, the country’s spiritual and cultural heart, exploring its ancient medina, historic religious architecture and famous tanneries. A mosaic workshop adds a more hands-on element and a closer look at one of Morocco’s enduring craft traditions.
Day 7: Fez – Midelt – Erfoud
Travel south through the Middle Atlas, passing cedar forests, mountain scenery and towns with a markedly different feel from the cities of the north. From Erfoud, continue into the desert towards Merzouga, where a sunset camel ride leads into a night among the dunes.
Day 8: Merzouga
Today is devoted to the Sahara around Merzouga, from black desert tracks and nomadic encounters to village life and Gnawa music. It is a fuller desert day, adding atmosphere and local character beyond the dunes themselves.
Day 9: Merzouga – Erfoud – Tinghir
Leave Merzouga and travel west through desert scenery and oasis settlements towards Tinghir. The Todgha Gorge is the day’s natural highlight, before the route continues along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to Ouarzazate.
Day 10: Ouarzazate – Marrakesh
This morning includes Ait Benhaddou, southern Morocco’s most celebrated kasbah, before the journey climbs through the Atlas on the Tizi n’Tichka Pass and returns to Marrakesh.
Day 11: Marrakesh
Explore Marrakesh through its gardens, major monuments, souks and Djemaa El Fna, with a cooking class adding a more personal introduction to Moroccan cuisine and daily life. It is one of the itinerary’s liveliest and most varied city days.
Day 12: Marrakesh – Atlas Mountains – Marrakesh
Head out into the Atlas Mountains for a day of foothill scenery, Berber villages and quieter landscapes beyond the city. Time in the mountains gives the itinerary a welcome change of pace before returning to Marrakesh.
Day 13: Marrakesh
