Day 1: Commence your journey to the Silk Road

Begin your journey to Uzbekistan, setting out for a route that links Tashkent, Khiva, Bukhara, Shahrisabz and Samarkand. Overnight travel.

Day 2: Tashkent

Arrive in Tashkent and transfer to your hotel for a two-night stay in the Uzbek capital. Tashkent introduces the journey with a different side of the Silk Road world, where broad avenues, museums, mosques and traditional bazaars sit alongside Soviet-era planning and modern city life.

Day 3: Tashkent Sightseeing Tour

Spend the day discovering Tashkent’s historic and cultural highlights, from the spiritual heart of the old city to its grander public spaces and long-established bazaars. It is a useful introduction to Uzbekistan as a whole, balancing Islamic heritage, imperial history and everyday city life.

Day 4: Tashkent – Urgench – Khiva

Travel to Khiva and begin exploring its remarkable walled inner city, one of the best-preserved historic urban centres in Central Asia. Within its mud-brick walls, Khiva feels almost self-contained: a place of minarets, madrasahs, courtyards and old Silk Road atmosphere.

Day 5: Khiva – Bukhara

Leave Khiva and cross the Kyzylkum Desert towards Bukhara, passing the Amu Darya along the way. It is a long but memorable drive, and one that gives a real sense of the distances that once separated the great trading cities of the region.

Day 6: Bukhara City Tour

Today is devoted to Bukhara, one of the most important historic cities in Central Asia and long a centre of scholarship, religion and trade. Expect a dense concentration of mosques, madrasahs, old market domes and monumental architecture gathered within a richly preserved historic core.

Day 7: Bukhara

Continue exploring Bukhara with a different perspective on the city, looking beyond its major monuments to the more refined world of palaces and merchant houses. The day adds texture to Bukhara’s story, showing both courtly life and the decorative traditions for which the city is known.

Day 8: Bukhara – Shahrisabz – Samarkand

Travel on to Shahrisabz, birthplace of Amir Timur, through steppe country and mountain scenery shaped by old caravan routes. After time among the city’s Timurid remains, continue over the Takhtakaracha Pass to Samarkand, one of the great historic capitals of the Silk Road world.

Day 9: Samarkand City Tour

Spend the day in Samarkand, where some of Uzbekistan’s most celebrated monuments are gathered on a scale that still feels imperial. Grand mausoleums, tiled squares and bustling bazaar life come together here in a city that has long stood at the centre of Central Asian history.

Day 10: Samarkand – Tashkent

This morning continues your time in Samarkand, with further insight into the city’s craftsmanship, scholarship and sacred architecture. Later, return to Tashkent by train for your final night in the capital.

Day 11: Tashkent – Departure

After breakfast and check-out, transfer to Tashkent International Airport for your onward journey home.
