Thailand Jungle Wildlife & Beaches
£3,500.00
From Bangkok’s temple-lined riverbanks and after-dark food stalls to the misty mountains of Chiang Mai, ancient rainforest of Khao Sok and white-sand shores of Khao Lak, this 16-day journey reveals Thailand at its most varied. Cruise hidden canals by longtail boat, eat your way through the capital by tuk-tuk, watch elephants roaming without direct interaction and walk among forests and waterfalls beneath Doi Inthanon. Further south, search for nocturnal wildlife, cross emerald Cheow Lan Lake and snorkel among coral reefs off the Similan Islands, with generous time to unwind beside the Andaman Sea.
Day 1: Bangkok
Arrive in Bangkok and meet your local representative for the transfer to your riverside accommodation. Settle into your Deluxe River View room and enjoy your first evening in the Thai capital at your own pace.
Day 2: Bangkok
Begin among the ornate architecture of the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, home to the revered Emerald Buddha. Continue to Wat Pho before enjoying lunch and exploring Thai history at the Museum of Siam. Later, take to Bangkok’s canals aboard a traditional longtail boat, passing waterside communities before arriving at Wat Arun beside the Chao Phraya River.
Day 3: Bangkok
As daylight fades, travel through Bangkok by tuk-tuk, passing landmarks including the Democracy Monument and Giant Swing. Visit a Michelin Bib Gourmand-listed pad Thai restaurant and sample grilled meat, stewed pork leg, coconut pudding and other local favourites. Explore the colourful Pak Klong Talat flower market before ending the evening at a relaxed rooftop bar overlooking the Chao Phraya River. Dinner is included.
Day 4: Bangkok – Chiang Mai
Leave Bangkok behind and fly north to Chiang Mai. Meet your representative on arrival and transfer to your accommodation in the historic heart of the city. Settle into your Lanna Room, surrounded by temples, traditional architecture and the characterful streets of Chiang Mai’s old quarter.
Day 5: Chiang Mai
Spend the day observing elephants in a setting where direct visitor interaction is not permitted. Follow forest paths to watch them grazing and socialising, learn about their behaviour and conservation, and help prepare feeding tubes before enjoying a vegetarian Thai lunch overlooking the animals. Continue to Doi Suthep, reaching the revered mountainside temple by its carved Naga staircase or cable car.
Day 6: Chiang Mai
Leave the city behind for the forested mountains of Doi Inthanon National Park. Travel towards Thailand’s highest summit, taking in far-reaching views across the northern highlands. Visit a hill tribe village, cool off in a mountain waterfall and enjoy a local lunch amid the misty surroundings.
Day 7: Chiang Mai – Khao Sok
Fly south and continue into the rainforest of Khao Sok, where your bungalow sits among limestone cliffs, dense jungle and the sounds of wildlife.
Choose between a jungle trek that continues into a bamboo-cooking experience and guided night safari, or a half-day hike followed by bamboo cooking, dinner and another opportunity to search for nocturnal wildlife. A treehouse upgrade is available for £75 per person for the two-night stay.
Day 8: Khao Sok
Travel by longtail boat across the striking waters of Cheow Lan Lake, surrounded by rainforest and immense limestone formations. Stop at the floating bungalows for a Thai-style lunch, with time for swimming and relaxation. Depending on the weather, continue with either a guided cave visit or a walk along one of the surrounding nature trails before returning for dinner in the jungle.
Day 9: Khao Sok – Khao Lak
Exchange the rainforest for the Andaman coast as you transfer from Khao Sok to Khao Lak. Settle into your Garden Residence for seven nights, with a long white-sand beach, tropical gardens and the sea within easy reach.
Days 10 – 12: Khao Lak
Enjoy three days at leisure in Khao Lak. Relax beside the pool or on the beach, swim in the Andaman Sea or choose from optional spa treatments and water sports.
Further afield, optional possibilities include exploring Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park, visiting local markets and temples, discovering the historic town of Takua Pa or kayaking through mangrove forests. Optional activities are not included unless specifically stated.
Day 13: Khao Lak – Similan Islands – Khao Lak
Travel by speedboat into the clear waters of the Similan Islands National Park. Swim or relax on the white sands of Donald Duck Bay, with the option to climb to Sailing Rock for views across the island.
Continue to Coral Bay at Ba Ngu Island and the reefs surrounding Payu Island for snorkelling among colourful marine life. After an included buffet lunch, spend time at Honeymoon and Princess Bay on Mieng Island before returning to Khao Lak.
Days 14 – 15: Khao Lak
Spend two final days at leisure beside the Andaman Sea. Unwind on the beach, enjoy the resort’s swimming and spa facilities or consider optional diving, snorkelling, golf, private dining and boat excursions.
Those seeking something more active can explore nearby national parks, travel through mangrove forests or discover the caves and coastal landscapes surrounding Khao Lak.
