Day 1: Arrive in Tokyo

Meet & assist in the arrivals hall and transfer privately to your accommodation. Time at leisure to decompress; explore a nearby district or simply walk a garden path – Hamarikyu sits like a pocket of calm between waterways and towers, and Asakusa’s Senso-ji offers classic temple atmosphere if you want an immediate sense of old Tokyo. Overnight in Tokyo.

Day 2: Tokyo – Toyama

Morning meet by English-speaking assistant; private car to the station for the Shinkansen to Toyama (Standard Class). Afternoon free. Depending on season, plan for alpine routes and festivals in summer, or winter gorge scenery and a riverboat around UNESCO-listed Gokayama; within the city, the Glass Art Museum, Toyama Castle and ultra-fresh seafood are easy wins. Overnight in Toyama.

Day 3: Toyama

A flexible day to shape around weather and season: hiking and high-country viewpoints when skies are clear; traditional villages (Gokayama) and local museums when they’re not. Keep time for an unhurried lunch – regional seafood is a highlight – and a late-day wander through the castle grounds. Overnight in Toyama.

Day 4: Toyama – Kanazawa; Tea Ceremony

Make your own way to the station; Shinkansen to Kanazawa. This afternoon, dress in kimono for a private tea ceremony: a calm, unhurried introduction to matcha, etiquette and seasonal aesthetics. Afterwards, take time to wander Kanazawa’s historic quarters or find a small counter for dinner. Overnight in Kanazawa.

Day 5: Kanazawa Highlights

Kenroku-en – the city’s signature garden – paired with Kanazawa Castle; continue to Kagayuzen Kaikan to see the centuries-old yuzen silk-painting technique. In Nagamachi, step into Nomura Samurai House (tea room, courtyard garden, Edo-period artefacts). Finish in Higashi Chaya among wooden teahouses and gold-leaf craft; visit Hakuza’s gold-leaf display and the Shima teahouse, with a cup of green tea to close the day. Overnight in Kanazawa.

Day 6: Fukui Excursion

Head into Fukui’s forested hills to Eiheiji Temple, a working Sōtō Zen monastery set among towering cedars – give yourself time; the complex rewards slow exploration. Continue to Takefu Knife Village to craft a small paper knife and browse the workshop’s blades and wares – a strong candidate for the souvenir you actually keep. Return to Kanazawa. Overnight in Kanazawa or depart next day.
