Start with a short stay in Kota Kinabalu to reset and recharge before heading deep into the rainforest. Cruise down the wildlife hotbed of the Kinabatangan River in search of Proboscis Monkeys, Pygmy Elephants, Hornbills, Monitor lizards and elusive Orangutans. Visit the famous Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary and the Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Finally, relax on the idyllic beaches of Gaya Island. Borneo Bliss!

Day 1: Fly to Kota Kinabalu

Departure from the UK on an overnight flight to Kuala Lumpur.

Day 2: Arrive Borneo

Continue on a short hop to Kota Kinabalu where you will be met by your English speaking guide and transferred to the Horizon Hotel.

Day 3: Kota Kinabalu City (B)

Enjoy a full day to explore the sights of Kota Kinabalu – ask us for details for day excursions here if you wish.

Day 4: Sepilok – Kinabatangan River – Abai (B,L,D)

Take a short flight to Sandakan where you will be met and taken to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Watch them at their feeding station and learn more about the centre’s important work. Embark on a boat cruise to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary passing pristine mangrove forests and searching for wildlife. At dusk, head upriver in search of Proboscis Monkeys, birds, reptiles and other wildlife and as night falls, witness the spectacular sight of glittering fireflies on the mangrove trees.

Day 5: Pitas Lake – Abai Village (B,L,D)

Depart on an early morning wildlife spotting boat trip as the sun rises over the nearby Pitas Lake. Visit the nearby Abai Village to view a local tree planting project. Spend time with the villagers to learn about how the delicate balance of deforestation and progress affects their daily life.  As dusk falls head out on a cruise along the Kinabatangan River in search of wildlife before it settles down for the day.

Day 6: Abai – Kinabatangan River – Sandakan – Sepilok (B, L)

Return to Sandakan and enjoy a visit to the markets before taking lunch at a local restaurant. Transfer to Sepilok MY Nature Resort.

Day 7: Sepilok Nature Reserve (B)

A full day at leisure to explore Sepilok, the Rainforest Discover Centre or visit the local Sun Bear Centre. A complimentary tour to the Sepilok Orangutan Centre is included in your tour.

Day 8: Sepilok – Kota Kinabalu (B)

Fly back to Kota Kinabalu and transfer to the beautiful 5-star Gaya Island Resort.

Day 9 & 10: At leisure (B)

Enjoy two days at leisure to enjoy the facilities of this wonderful resort. Relax, enjoy the numerous water sports,  snorkel from the white sandy beach, take a SCUBA trip, or head back into the dense jungle island with the resort’s naturist to meet their wild neighbours – monkeys, birds and reptiles.

Day 11: Departure (B)

Transfer to Kota Kinabalu airport for your overnight flight to the UK.

Day 12: Arrive UK
