South Africa Garden Route Self Drive

Our 15-day tour of South Africa is so accessible on a self-drive holiday. We will help you plan the perfect trip. We can pre-book your character boutique properties and we’ll provide you with everything you need to get started. The pace you go is then completely up to you. All our tours can be run on a self drive basis staying in small guest houses, luxury lodges or self catering houses.

Day 1: Cape Town

On arrival at Cape Town airport you will be met by our representative who will transfer you to your hotel in a private vehicle.
Overnight: The Commodore for 3 nights.

Day 2: Robben Island Day Trip (B)

Today, enjoy a day trip to Robben Island, famous as the place where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Return to Cape Town and your hotel.

Day 3: Cape Town (B)

Today is completely at leisure to relax and enjoy your surrounds.

Day 4: Franschoek (B)

Your car hire will be delivered to your hotel. Drive to Franschoek to your lodge for the next 2 nights. Set on its own vineyard high above the town of Franschhoek, La Petite Ferme has stunning views across the wine estates to the dramatic mountains.
Overnight: La Petit Ferme for 2 nights.

Day 5: Franschoek (B)

Free day to explore the picturesque region of the Franschoek Winelands.
Overnight: La Petit Ferme

Day 6: McGregor (B)

Travel along the spectacular pass via Villiersdorp and Robertson to McGregor. You will stay for 2 nights in a little gem of a property, hidden away in this quaint village.
Overnight: The Old Mill House for 2 nights

Day 7: McGregor (B)

Day at leisure – the Old Mill House main homestead has a cosy bar and restaurant with its whitewashed cottages adjacent to the old water mill. Vineyards and mountain backdrops, good food, great wine and country hospitality at its best awaits.

Day 8: Knysna (B)

Today you will continue to Knysna, the heart of the Garden Route. Check-in at your chosen hotel, time at leisure to explore.
Overnight: Belvidere Manor for 4 nights

Days 9 – 11: Knysna (B)

Knysna is one of the Southern Cape coast’s best-known holiday destinations, situated between lush forests and the shores of the peaceful lagoon – it offers many activities and attractions of a wide variety.
Overnight: Belvidere Manor

Day 12: Game Reserve & River Lodge (B/L/D)

Continue to Port Elizabeth airport to drop of hire car. You will be transferred to the wonderful Kariega Game Reserve & River Lodge, fully inclusive, all meals and two game drives per day.
Overnight: Kariega River Lodge for 3 nights.

Days 13 – 14: Kariega Game Reserve (B/L/D)

Kariega Private Game Reserve is bordered in the east and west by the picturesque Kariega and Bushman’s Rivers. The twice-daily safari drives on open land cruisers offer a unique combination of exciting lion, elephant and Big 5 game viewing and expansive variety of fauna, flora and birdlife.
Overnight: Kariega River Lodge

Day 15: Departure (B)

Private transfer to Port Elizabeth airport for your departure flight.
