Madagascar – Andasibe, Namoroka & Anjajavy

A 15-day Madagascar journey that starts in Antananarivo and the rainforests of Andasibe for indri encounters, Mantadia hikes and night walks, then flies to the rarely visited tsingy country of Namoroka for two days of limestone pinnacles and cave systems, before finishing on the north-west coast at Anjajavy Lodge for all-inclusive beach-and-reserve time with lemurs, birdlife and boat excursions in Moramba Bay.
Day 1: Antananarivo
Arrive into Ivato Airport and meet your English-speaking guide, then transfer to your hotel in the upper town. Time to settle in, with the option to use the pool and enjoy views across the city before dinner. Overnight at Maison Gallieni in a standard room (Half board).
Day 2: Antananarivo – Andasibe
After an early breakfast, drive east to Andasibe, passing rice fields, redbrick houses and roadside stalls. Check in for lunch, then visit the Mitsinjo private reserve, run by a local NGO supporting reforestation, community education and conservation, including Madagascar’s first amphibian captive-breeding facility, with the option to plant an indigenous species on the reforestation trail (by prior arrangement). Overnight at Mantadia Lodge in a standard room (Full board).
Day 3: Andasibe (Mantadia National Park)
Drive to Mantadia National Park with a picnic lunch. Hike in search of indri, diademed sifaka and other rainforest lemurs, plus key endemic birds, then picnic by the Rianasoa Waterfall before returning to the lodge. Late evening night walk in the forest around the reserve to look for nocturnal lemurs including mouse lemurs, sportive lemurs and fat-tailed dwarf lemur. Overnight at Mantadia Lodge in a standard room (Full board).
Day 4: Andasibe (Perinet Reserve) – Antananarivo
Visit the Perinet Reserve with a local guide for indri and other lemurs, plus rainforest birds, orchids and reptiles. Return to the lodge for lunch, then transfer by road to Antananarivo. Overnight at Nosy Manga in a King standard room (Half board, plus lunch in Andasibe).
Day 5: Antananarivo – Soalala – Namoroka
Fly by scheduled charter to Soalala, then transfer by road to Namoroka Tsingy Camp with a village walk en route. Late afternoon walk around camp for birds, chameleons and sifakas, with the possibility of fossa or aye-aye, then sundowners among the baobabs. Overnight at Namoroka Tsingy Camp in a tent (All inclusive).
Day 6: Antananarivo – Soalala – Namoroka
Full day exploring Namoroka National Park and its tsingy landscapes, one of Madagascar’s most rarely visited protected areas, with strong birdlife and chances for several lemur species. Explore the cave system beneath the massif, with a picnic lunch in the shade of the tsingy. Overnight at Namoroka Tsingy Camp in a tent (All inclusive).
Day 7: Namoroka Tsingy Camp
Second full day in Namoroka for further tsingy and wildlife time, with another opportunity to explore the cave systems and surrounding forest. Overnight at Namoroka Tsingy Camp in a tent (All inclusive).
Day 8: Namoroka – Soalala – Antananarivo
After an early breakfast, transfer by road to Soalala for your scheduled charter flight to Antananarivo. Transfer to your hotel in town. Overnight at La Varangue in a Deluxe room (Half board).
Day 9: Antananarivo city tour
Explore the historical upper town of Antananarivo, then continue downtown to see the old colonial railway station. Lunch at the CITIZEN restaurant with panoramic views, then visit Ambohimanga, the UNESCO-listed fortified sacred hill of the Merina kings and queens. Overnight at La Varangue in a Deluxe room (Half board).
Day 10: Antananarivo – Anjajavy
Transfer to Ivato Airport for your scheduled charter to Anjajavy on Madagascar’s north-west coast. Settle into the lodge, then head out for a night walk in the reserve to look for nocturnal lemurs and other wildlife, with chances for species including mouse lemurs, sportive lemurs and, with luck, fossa. Overnight at Anjajavy Lodge in a Seaview Villa (All inclusive).
Day 11: Anjajavy
Walk the Chemin des Crabes for birdlife, baobabs and the famous hairy crab, with the chance of Madagascar fish eagle, crested ibis and sacred ibis, then visit a small cave with stalactites, sharks’ teeth and a fossilised lemur skull. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight at Anjajavy Lodge in a Seaview Villa (All inclusive).
Day 12: Anjajavy
Morning boat trip to Moramba Bay to see marine baobabs, sandy beaches and tsingy islets, with time searching for Madagascar fish eagle and an optional short snorkel if conditions allow. Afternoon walk along the King’s Alley for ancient baobabs, tsingy formations and lemurs including Coquerel’s sifaka. Overnight at Anjajavy Lodge in a Seaview Villa (All inclusive).
Day 13: Anjajavy
Free day at leisure, with a selection of complimentary lodge activities available. Overnight at Anjajavy Lodge in a Seaview Villa (All inclusive).
Day 14: Anjajavy
Second free day at leisure to relax or explore at your own pace. Overnight at Anjajavy Lodge in a Seaview Villa (All inclusive).
Day 15: Departure
Transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled charter flight back to Antananarivo. On arrival, airport assistance for your outbound flight.
