Namibia: Kalahari to Swakopmund

This 5-day self-drive tour takes you to through Namibia’s unforgettable scenery, giving you the perfect snapshot of this beautiful country. Cruise at your own pace in a comfortable and practical 4×4 SUV, armed with a detailed route map and driving instructions. Your journey starts in the bustling city of Windhoek and takes you through the vast expanse of the Kalahari, the soaring sand dunes of the Sossusvlei and finishes with a day in the alluring sea-side town of Swakopmund. Stay in idyllic lodges and carefully chosen accommodation along the way to complete your trip.

Day 1: Arrive in Windhoek

On arrival in Windhoek, a representative will be waiting at the airport to transfer you to your guesthouse.

Day 2: Kalahari (B,D)

Enjoy a hearty breakfast before having a thorough briefing about your route. Pick up your hire car  – a comfortable yet tough SUV, perfect for off-road driving. Pick up some snacks for the road, then make your way to the Kalahari. Arrive at your lodge and check-in for dinner. There are plenty of optional activities on offer – maybe enjoy a sunrise safari, a horse ride or take a bushmen excursion.

Day 3 & 4: Sossusvlei (B,D)

Today you will head to the soaring dunes of the Sossusvlei. Some of them reach an incredible 300m in height! Here you will also find the Sesriem Canyon, a 1km narrow gorge has formed. Check into your camp and enjoy its spectacular views of the Sossusvlei’s granite outcrops and roaming wildlife. There are plenty of activites to keep you busy at your camp. Perhaps enjoy an optional sundowner drive on the lodge’s private reserve, book a guided quad bike trail or take to the skies in a helicopter flight over the plains.

Day 5: Swakopmund (B)

Head north to Swakopmund today.  Swakopmund is a popular holiday destination with a pleasant climate and clean beaches. Surfers, anglers, beach lovers and wildlife enthusiasts come here from all over Southern Africa and it’s no surprise there is lots to do here. Just outside of the town, towering dunes provide the perfect terrain for all kinds of adventure activities – sand boarding, sand skiing, quad biking, camel rides and off road driving.

Or you could take to the water and try your hand at surfing, book a boat trip to spot dolphins and seals, spend the day sea-fishing or enjoy a days kayaking out to Pelican Point.

Day 6: Departure (B)

Make the drive back to Windhoek to return your car and transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
