Sumatra is still relatively untouched and undeveloped by tourism, and makes the perfect destination for the intrepid traveller who wants to discover untrodden paths and quiet vistas. This highlights tour takes you to the banks of Lake Toba, the largest volcanic lake in the world, up to 100km long. And north into the protected national parks of Bukit Lawang to find Orangutans still in the wild. And or the thrill seekers there is white-water rafting and climbing volcanoes.

Day 1:  Silangit Airport Parapat Samosir (L,D)

On arrival your local English-speaking guide and private vehicle with driver will meet you to take you on a scenic road over Bukit Barisan mountains to Parapat where you take a ferry boat cross the lake Toba to Samosir island to your accommodation. This small island is located in the middle of Lake Toba, the largest volcanic lake in the world.

Day 2:  Samosir Island Tour (Ambarita, Simanindo & Tomok Village) – Village Walking Trip (B,L,D)

After breakfast your private car and driver will take you to Ambarita, a traditional Batak Toba village  and to  see the performance of a traditional Batak Toba dance. Return to your hotel for lunch, then go on a walking village tour seeing rice fields, vegetables garden, and to a local house to experience the daily life of Batak¹s people, with a beautiful view of lake Toba.

Day 3: Samosir Island to Tongging Merek (B,L,D)

This morning take the ferry from Samosir Island and drive along the northern shore of the lake to Tongging Merek taking in a view of Lake Toba from the highest point. Then visit Rumah Bolon, a 200-year-old wooden house which was home to the ancient Batak Simalungun Kings. Stop at a beautiful waterfall before arriving at your hotel. The afternoon is free to relax amidst your beautiful surrounds, or venture out on any of the activities on offer such as horseback riding, jungle trekking, farm tours or waterfall visits (please arrange locally).

Day 4: Brastagi (Sibayak Climbing) – Bukit Lawang (B,L,D)

Early in the morning drive to Dokan village, home of Batak Karo people before heading to the starting point of your short climb to the Sibayak volcano. Then drive through the winding route and mountain village of Brastagi to Bukit Lawang at the entrance of Gunung Leuser National park to check in to your Ecolodge.

Bukit Lawang is a peaceful village in the province of North Sumatra. The location is a main access point into the green heart of Sumatra: the Leuser Ecosystem. You will have the unique chance to view wild orangutans in a guided tour through the lush forests of the region.

Day 5: Short Jungle Trekking – Cooking Demonstration (B,L,D)

In the morning, you start short jungle trekking (3 hrs) to the mountainous National Park. Venture deeper into the jungle to spot some of the endemic wildlife such as the magnificent Orangutan.

In the afternoon you will be transferred by motorized becak to the local house in the village near Bukit Lawang for a local cooking course and dinner.

Day 6: Bukit Lawang - Bingei River Rafting (optional) – Medan (B,L,D)

Today you can opt for white-water rafting! The Bingei River rafting trip is a fascinating adventure with grade 2 and 3 rapids. You will be accompanied by a professional rafting guide. The trip takes about 1.5 - 2 hours where you can enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Bingei River, swimming and jumping off a 6 metres' cliff down to the river. After the rafting you drive back to the camp where you can enjoy the meals of Indonesian cooking. Then in the afternoon drive back to Medan for overnight stay.

Day 7 & 8: Free Days at Leisure (B)

Day 9: Medan City Tour - Departure Day (B)

After breakfast you check out and start city tour of Medan visiting Tjong A Fie Mansion (house of former a Chinese Leader in 1920), Grand Mosque (built in 1906) and Maimoon palace (1888).  After the tour you will be transferred you to the airport fo  your flight home.
