Starting in Christchurch, you will explore the island on a circular route taking in the mountains of the Southern Alps and the blue waters of the alpine lakes as you arrive at Mt. Cook National Park. Head south to Te Anau, the entrance to Fiordland National Park and explore the incredible wilderness on a Milford Sound cruise. Continue to Queenstown, New Zealand’s adventure capital and indulge in the many activities on offer. Finally, return to Christchurch taking in the awe-inspiring West Coast Glaciers.

Day 1: Arrive in New Zealand

On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in central Christchurch. Known for its wide, tree lined avenues and beautiful gardens, the best way to see the city is the hop on, hop off bus, or take the historic tram.
Day 2: Christchurch at Leisure (B)
Take delivery of you hire car this morning. The rest of the day is at your leisure to explore the city or the surrounding area. Take a drive in almost any direction and you'll find something to do - from skiing, mountain biking, wine tasting, whale-watching, bungy jumping or golf. If exploring the city is top of your list, you could join the optional Grand Tour, to see the parks, seaside suburbs, hills, Botanical Gardens and Christchurch Gondala.
Day 3: Mt. Cook National Park (B)
Leave the city today and make the four hour drive to Mt. Cook National Park. This scenic drive takes you through Canterbury, Burkes Pass and into the picturesque lakeside town of Tekapo. As the road follows the shores of Lake Pukaki you'll be treated with incredible views of Mt Cook and the lakes glacier-fed turquoise blue waters.
Day 4: Te Anau (B)
Your drive today takes you up to one of New Zealand's highest roads, the Lindis Pass and into Central Otago - a wonderful place to stock up on Pinot Noir. Continue through the sheer cliffs of the Kawarau Gorge and past Queenstown. Following Lake Wakatipu, you are guided into Te Anau, the gateway to Fiordland National Park.
Day 5: Milford Sound Cruise (B, L)
Driving to Milford Sound from Te Anau offers unsurpassable scenic views. You'll see crystal clear lakes, towering mountains and acres of glacier-formed fields. Your cruise from Milford Sounds takes around 2 hours and you'll experience tumbling waterfalls, towering peaks, lush rainforest and native wildlife from the deck of your boat. Learn about the region, its history and natural surroundings while enjoying a delicious picnic lunch. As you cruise, keep an eye out for dolphins, seals and penguins - frequent visitors to the fiord.
Day 6: Queensland (B)
Take the return drive back to the city of Queensland - New Zealand's self-proclaimed adventure capital. There are plenty of optional activities we can include ranging from an adrenaline-pumping jet boat ride through a narrow canyon or a more tranquil steamship cruise  and gourmet dinner. Queenstown offers plenty of dining, shopping and entertainment options.
Day 7: Queensland (B)
Day at leisure to explore the city and make the most of the local attractions and adventures on offer.
Day 8: Franz Josef Glacier (B)

'Head to the West Coast, taking New Zealand's highest road, to the alpine town of Wanaka. You will pass the remote seaside settlement of Haast before arriving in Franz Josef. Famed for its 12km long glacier of the same name, you can see the ice from a viewpoint ands you can walk along the valley floor to the terminal face without a guide. However, to go on the glacier itself you must take a licensed helicopter tour.

Day 9: TranzAlpine Train (B)
Leave the ice and head to the coastal town of Greymouth where you will begin the next leg of your journey. Leave your hire car and board ther TranzAlpine Train which will take you back to Christchurch. Considered one of the world's great train journeys, you will traverse South Island from the west to the east coast through Arthur's Pass National Park. From the comfort of your carriage you will pass eech forest, deep river valleys and the spectacular peaks of the Southern Alps. Descend to the windswept Canterbury Plains before arriving in the city of Christchurch, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 10: Departure (B)
You will be collected from your hotel and transferred to the airport for your return flight.
