A magical 15 day tour of Burma’s mysterious land, visiting Bagan, home to 1000’s of golden pagodas, and the beautiful temples and monasteries of Yangon. Stay on a traditional Burmese boat whilst cruising down Irrawaddy River with its unique leg rowing fishermen, and stop off at local markts and villages on Inle Lake. End your holiday relaxing on the exotic white sandy beach of Ngapali.

Burma is a jewel in South-East Asia, being relatively untouched by tourism has left it an enchanting place to visit.

Day 1: Depart London

Depart London Heathrow for your overnight flight to Yangon via Doha with Qatar Airways.

Day 2: Arrive Myanmar

Arrival in Myanmar where you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon visit the historic Shwedagon Pagoda which towers almost 98 metres above the green cityscape of Yangon. This magnificent building is covered with hundreds of gold plates and the top of the Stupa is encrusted with 4531 diamonds, the largest of which is a single 76 carats.

Day 3: Yangon (B)

This morning head out on a city tour on foot and by car. Highlights include City Hall, the old railway station and the former Minister’s office. Interspersed are various religious sites such as the St Mary’s Cathedral, built in 1899, and the Buddhist landmarks of Sule Paya and Botataung Pagoda.

Onwards then to the Kalaywa Monastery. After lunch visit to the huge reclining Buddha at Chauk Htat Kyi before heading to Kandawgyi Park, one of central Yangon’s greenest spots. Here you will see the glittering Karaweik barge, a replica of the royal barge, and the vast lake with views of Shwedagon in the background.

Day 4: Yangon - Mandalay (B)

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport for the flight to Mandalay. Sightseeing today will include the spiritually important Mahamuni Pagoda which houses one of the most famous seated Buddha images in all Myanmar. Continue to the Shwenandaw Kyaung (Golden Palace Monastry), an imposing teak monastery-temple that was originally built within the palace complex but subsequently dismantled and rebuilt some years later.

After lunch at a local restaurant, continue to Kuthodaw Pagoda which is said to house the world’s largest book on account of the 729 marble slabs that are inscribed with Buddhist scriptures. Overnight in Mandalay.

Day 5: Mandalay – RV. Paukan (B, L, D)

This morning you will be met and transferred to the jetty at Gawein where you will board the RV Paukan for your river cruise.

After lunch there will be the opportunity to go ashore and visit Ancient Mingun. Located on the western bank of the Irrawaddy River. The rest of the day will be spent cruising downstream along the river.

Day 6: RV Paukan (B, L, D)

After breakfast, disembark and visit Sagaing, which is considered to be the living centre of Buddhism in Myanmar and the hundreds of monasteries and temples reverberate with the echoes of cymbals, gongs and Pagoda bells. Return to the boat in time for lunch and continue cruising and observing life on the river. In the late afternoon visit the village of Yandabo. This small settlement, with no road access is noted for its terracotta pot-making. Tonight, moor near the village of Shwe Nann Tint.

Day 7: RV Paukan – Bagan (B)

Weather permitting, enjoy sunrise from the deck of the boat before breakfast and a final few hours of cruising prior to arriving at Baga. Disembarkation will be at approximately 10:00hrs and you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Bagan.

The rest of the day will be dedicated to exploring the temples and the surrounding area. Sightseeing will include Gubyauknge with its excellent stucco carvings, the impressive Htilominlo Pahto and Ananda Pahto which is one of the best preserved temples in the archaeological zone.

After a break for lunch at a local restaurant, there will be the opportunity to visit a local workshop where the process of making these can be seen.

Day 8: Bagan (B)

Begin the morning with a visit to nearby Phwar Saw Village which affords the opportunity to witness rural Burmese life. En route you will be able to stop at the market at Nyaung Oo to see the variety of fresh produce for sale and gain an insight into the bustling market atmosphere in Bagan.

Lunch today will be in a local restaurant and later this afternoon there is chance to re-visit the temples, this time by Horse Cart enabling you to explore some of the lesser visited areas which cannot be reached by more conventional modes of transport. Return to your hotel and rest of the day at leisure.

Day 9: Bagan – Heho (Inle Lake)

This morning you will be transferred to Mandalay Airport in order to connect with your onward flight to Heho. Inle Lake and surrounding area is also home to a number of tribes, mainly Intha but also Shan, Kayah and Danaw to name a few. There are fantastic opportunities for browsing local markets and interacting with the local population.

After a brief visit to Shwe Yan Pyay Monastry, transfer to your private boat and venture onto the lake. Firstly, visit the five ancient gold-covered Buddha images at Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the holiest monastery on the lake. Continue sightseeing with a visit to the temple at Nga Hpe Kyaung on the eastern side of the lake, which houses an impressive collection of ancient Buddha images. Marvel at the floating gardens and unique technique of leg rowing which is so synonymous with Intha fishermen.

Day10: Inle Lake (B)

Visit the lake’s morning market today which is visited by lake inhabitants and surrounding hill tribes who come to sell and trade their wares.

After exploring the market, continue to the ruined stupas and temples at the lake-side village of Inndein with great views across the lake. After lunch there will be the opportunity to visit Nampan village to see local cigar (cheroot) making before continuing to Inn Paw Khone, to see silk weaving by the villagers.

The day will end with a tranquil canoe ride to witness life in one of the floating villages that are scattered throughout the lake.

Day 11: (Heho) Inle Lake / (Thandwe) Ngapali Beach (B)

This morning you will be transferred back to Heho for your flight to Thandwe where you will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel at nearby Ngapali Beach.

Days 12 – 13: Ngapali Beach (B)

Enjoy two full days at leisure on the pristine white sand, crystal clear waters and a palm fringed Ngapali beach.

Day 14: Thandwe) Ngapali Beach / Yangon (B)

After breakfast, pick up for your transfer back to the airport at Thandwe in order to connect with your return flight to Yangon. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. There is time to explore Bogyoke Aung San Market, on your last day, offering the largest selection of handicraft in Myanmar.

Day 15: Departure or Burma Beach extension (B)

An early pick up from the hotel to the airport for your return flight home.
