Day 1: Kigali (D)

On arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be met at the airport by our representative who will transfer you to your hotel in the heart of the city.

Day 2: Akagera National Park (B-L-D)

An early start this morning as you leave the city and head to the Akagera National Park. Sitting on the border of Tanzania, Akagera is a scenically impressive place, dominated by swamps and lakes that follow the course of the river it is named after. Tangled woodland is broken up with swathes of open grassland, making the area a haven for elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, waterbuck and countless species of birds. Arrive at your luxury eco-camp in time for lunch and settle into your secluded tent, hidden amongst palm and fig trees with uninterrupted lake views.  In the afternoon, head out on Lake Ihema to explore the park by boat. Keep your eyes peeled for hippos, crocodiles and water birds basking in the afternoon sun. Return to your camp for dinner followed by an evening game drive to spot nocturnal animals at play.

Day 3: Akagera National Park (B-L-D)

Wake up bright and early for a quick coffee and a wonderful morning game drive from south to north. Watch the early morning antics of elephant, zebra, bush baby, antelopes and if you are very lucky, leopard, lion and black rhino. The rolling hills and lowland lakes and swamps make for a stunning backdrop to your game drive.

Return to your camp for breakfast and a rest. After lunch enjoy a hike known as ‘walk in the line’… Park Rangers cover a 120km walk every day between them to check the park fence and ensure that the park is protected and conserved. You will cover around 7km, taking you up into the hills and ending with spectacular 360° views over the park.

Day 4: Lake Kivu (B-L-D)

Travel through the hills and have lunch back in Kigali. Then continue to Lake Kivu stopping at Ndaba waterfall en route. The waterfall is a mythical historical site, and a beautiful place to stop.  Lake Kivu is the highest lake in Africa and one of a string of freshwater lakes which lie along Africa Great Rift Valley.  Inviting sandy shores adorn the lake while the Virunga mountains surround it, making it a perfect place to relax and spend a few days.

Day 5: The Congo Nile Trail (B-L-D)

The Congo Nile Trail is a fabulous 10 day hike which runs from the southern shores of Lake Kivu up to the Northern shores via the famous Congo Nile Divide. Today you will embark on a 6 hour section of the trail which will take you into the hills, through hilltop villages and past waterfalls and pristine beaches. After a day of walking, return to your hotel to rest your feet and relax.

Day 6: Lake Kivu (B-L-D)

Spend the day making the most of the lake and its surrounding area. Lake Kivu is host to a wide range of sporting and adventure activities, ranging from fishing to biking, climbing and wind surfing.  Your day includes a nature hike in the morning followed by kayaking on the lake in the afternoon.

Day 7: Volcanoes National Park (B-L-D)

Leave Lake Kivu and head to Volcanoes National Park, home to the famous Gorillas and check into your mountain lodge. This is the base for your Gorilla Trek tomorrow.

Day 8: Gorilla Trek (B-L-D)

Today you will head out in search of gorillas. After breakfast, you will be taken to the starting point in the national park where you will make your unique journey into the ever-green bamboo forest accompanied by an expert guide. Head up the bamboo covered slopes to spend time just a few feet away from these awe-inspiring creatures as you watch them go about their daily life. Spend the morning in a once-in-alifetime-encounter watching the gorillas before returning to your lodge in the afternoon.

Day 9: Nyungwe (B-L-D)

After breakfast head to Nyungwe Forest , the largest protected forest in Africa, where you will have the chance to spot chimpanzees, monkeys and wonderful birdlife. You will also have the opportunity to see it from a bird eye view as you take to the tree tops in a canopy walk amidst beautiful scenery.

Day 10: Departure (B-L)
