Spend 9 magical days exploring the wilderness of North Island. Starting from the adventure city of Auckland, you will travel along the coast in your hire car, soaking up the unbeatable views and keeping your eyes peeled for New Zealand's varied wildlife. You'll have the chance to head out with an experienced guide on a wilderness adventure walk, taking in remote rainforest, rock faces, volcanic peaks and New Zealand's ancient fauna. Next stop is Rotorua, home to many Maori tribes, hot springs and an adventure park. Enjoy one of the world's most varied single day walks as you cross Mt Tongariro Alpine Crossing taking in alpine plains, the slopes of Mount Tongariro and volcanic crater lakes. Finally, sail smoothly through the magically lit, ancient Glow Worm Caves of Waitomo before returning your hire car to Auckland.

Day 1: Arrive in New Zealand

On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your modern hotel in Auckland.
Day 2: Coromandel Peninsula
Take delivery of you hire car before driving to the Coromandel Peninsular. Your drive takes you across the fertile plains of the Hauraki – a haven for wildlife – and along the Pohutukawa Coast. This spectacular drive offers unbeatable views and interesting driving. Arrive into Coromandel for lunch, before continuing down the east coast towards Whitianga and Tairua. Check into your luxurious accommodation which offers a prestigious hideaway location and access to over 25 acres of untamed countryside.
Day 3: Adventure Day Walk with Guide
Enjoy a challenging walk into remote rainforest surrounded by giant rock faces, volcanic peaks and ancient trees. You will see some of the worlds largest ferns, crystal clear rivers and rock pools, historic gold caves and learn about the history of the area. Your experienced guide will show you the wildlife and plant life of the forest as you walk.
Day 4: Rotorua
Today you will travel along the Bay of Plenty before turning inland to Rotorua. There are plenty of optional stops en route, from beaches, to gold mines, railways and even Matamata, home to the Lord of the Rings sets. As you arrive into Rotorua you'll be met with spectacular lake view along with clouds of steam from the multiple geysers across the region.
Day 5: Explore Rotorua
Spend the day exploring this fascinating area. There is a wealth of activities in the area. From cultural forays into the Maori culture to natural hot springs and even an adventure park. The area is home to several prominent Maori tribes and a visit to one of their villages is highly recommended,  as is the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal wonderland.
Day 6: Whakapapa Village
Take the Thermal Highway to Tongariro National Park. Stop offs include the Huka Falls, New Zealands largest volume of water, the trout-fishing capital Turangi, or a geothermal reserve. Your accommodation is nestled at the foot of Mount Ruapehu and is one of the most prestigious in the region.
Day 7: Guided Alpine Crossing
Experience one of the world's greatest single-day walks. Set off with a guide across alpine fields before traversing the incredible moon-like landscape of Mt Tongariro passing sulphurous, deep blue crater lakes and . Drop down into the lush rainforest of Ketetahi before being collected at the end of the trail. Depending on your fitness the walk takes between 7 to 9 hours.
Day 8: Waitomo
Your first stop today is the glow worm caves of Waitomo. Travel deep under ground to see the impressive stalactites and stalagmites, before taking a boat to glide smoothly into the magically lit glow worm cave. Continue your drive to Otorohanga Kiwi House for a look at some of New Zealand's native birdlife before continuing to Auckland.
Day 9: Departure
Spend the morning exploring the city of Auckland. Drop your hire car at the airport  depot before catching your onwards flight. Why not continue to South Island for one of our tours.
