Madagascar Discovery 15-day Tailor Made Holiday perfectly blends the best of the islands National Parks with the beautiful village of Ifaty, overlooking the Mozambique Channel. Visit Andasibe Natural Reserve with its primary forests and a host of endemic species including the Madagascar yellowbrow bird, the biggest chameleon on the island and 50 reptile species. Explore Antsirabe and Ranomafana NP as well as the famous Isalo National Park.

Day 1: Arrive Antanarivo, Madagascar

Arrival at Antanarivo International airport, where you will be met by our local representatives and transferred to your boutique hotel for overnight.

Day 2: Andasibe Natural Reserve (B/D)

Drive eastwards this morning to Andasibe natural reserve (about 3½ hour’s drive). On the way, stop for the visit of the insect and reptile farm Peyreiras also called Exotic park at Marozevo. It provides the opportunities for close viewing of some chameleons, leaf tailed geckos, butterflies, crocodiles and also lemurs.
Arrival in Andasibe in the afternoon and check-in at the hotel.
In the evening, enjoy a nocturnal walk to try to spot nocturnal species.

Day 3: Andasibe Natural Reserve (B/D)

Enjoy the whole day to explore Andasibe National Park. To see the most wildlife (especially Indris and birds) be in the rainforest as close to daybreak as possible when the animals are most active. The trails are not difficult to manage and the forest guides speak good English. You should also encounter the likes of Grey Bamboo Lemur, Red-fronted Brown Lemur; birds like the lovely Blue Coua; Sunbird-Asity and Nuthatch Vanga, as well as impressive reptiles like Malagasy Tree Boa and Parson’s Chameleon.
Orchids and other epiphytes festoon the trees.

Day 4: Antsirabe (B/D)

Check out of the lodge and you will be transferred by private car with your driver-guide to the highland town of Antsirabe. The drive takes around 6 hours. En- route at Ambatolampy, a quaint little town, have coffee at the Au Rendezvous Des Pecheurs. Antsirabe is a busy town, the rickshaw capital with pousse-pousse (rickshaw) drivers touting for business.

Day 5: Ranomafana National Park (B/D)

Transfer by road to the Ranomafana National Park, a journey of about 5 hours. You'll stop at Ambositra which is famous for its wood carvings. Ranomafana National Park features superb scenery and is dominated by the white-water River Namorona, which cascades through rainforest-clad slopes. There is a good system of trails, including several half-day walks. Ranomafana is famed for its twelve species of lemur including the three species of Bamboo Lemur.

Day 6: Ranomafana National Park (B/D)

For avid birders this is the place where you might find Brown Emutail, Madagascar Pygmy Kingfisher, Pitta-like and Rufous-headed ground-rollers, Brown Mesite, Yellow-browed Oxylabes, Crossley's Babbler, Forest Rock-thrush and Pollen's Vanga.

Day 7: Ranomafana - Fianarantsoa – Tsaranoro Valley (B/D)

Continuation to Fianarantsoa, (shortly named Fianar), capital of the Bestileo country, means “the place where you learn the Good”. Stroll in the historical part of town : the paved roads, traditional houses and the beautiful cathedral give the place quite a romantic atmosphere; and through Ambalavao before heading to the final destination of the day: Tsaranoro Tal in the Andringitra region. Arrival in Tsaranoro valley at the end of the afternoon.

Day 8: Tsaranoro Tal (B/L/D)

Tsara Camp organises many guided walks in the beautiful reddish mountains. Easy walks will take you in a sacred forest inhabited by catta lemurs, to a waterfall, a natural swimming pool, and nearby Bara bory villages. A unique opportunity to discover the malagasy traditional life of this isolated population: people live only with the weather, the sun and the rice harvest as a clock. More walks will bring you all the way up to Mount Chameleon!

Day 9: Tsaranoro Tal – Ranohira (B/D)

Continuation to Ranohira. Scenery change: leave the mountains for the awesome scenery of the Horombe plateau: you are in the Bara lands. The great South is straight ahead of you! Arrival in the end of the afternoon.

Day 10: Isalo National Park (B/D)

A full day to visit on foot the National Park of Isalo, our malagasy Colorado.
Established in 1962, Isalo National Park protects 815 km² of sandstone massif wildly eroded by wind and rain into bizarre ridges (known as “runiformes”) featuring wild forms, impressive gorges and canyons and tiny stalagmite pinnacles. Amongst the highlights of the day: the maki canyons and the natural swimming pool nestled in the rocks.

Day 11: Ranohira – Tuléar – Ifaty (B)

After breakfast drive to Ifaty fishermen village on the Mozambique Channel for the next 4 nights of relaxation. En-route, visit Antsokay Arboretum, where you can see hundreds of plants, most of them endemic of the Malagasy south: pachypodium, baobabs, aloes, and succulents such as the 'didieracées.
Overnight: Les dunes d'Ifaty

Days 12 - 14: Ifaty at leisure (B)

Ifaty is a beach resort of great beauty in the shade of palm trees, where a whole range of activities related to the sea can be arranged.
Protected by a coral reef, the resort is famous for diving and relaxation. It is a haven away from civilization, lost between the turquoise waters of the lagoon and semi-desert vegetation within the country, the area is also rich in medicinal plants.
Overnight: Les dunes d'Ifay

Day 15: Departure (B)

Transfer back to Tuléar's airport and for the flight back to Antananarivo to connect with your international flight back to the UK.
