A luxurious 17-night privately escorted tour of South Africa, taking in the best this beautiful country offers. Staying in boutique hotels and lodges throughout, you will be escorted by a private guide throughout.

The trip begins with a few nights in Cape Town and then journey along the famous Garden Route visiting wineries, traditional villages, game reserves and beach side retreats along the way. Your trip ends in the Kruger National Park where you will see the Big 5.

Day 1: Cape Town

On arrival at Cape Town airport you will be met by our representative who will transfer you to your boutique guest house in a private vehicle.
Overnight: Boutique Guest House for 4 nights.

Day 2: Cape Town & Robben Island Day Trip

Today, enjoy a private tour of Cape Town and its waterfront and sights. Then onto Robben Island, famous as the place where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Return to your hotel this afternoon. (B)

Days 3 - 4: Cape Town

Days completely at leisure to relax and enjoy your surrounds. (B)

Day 5: Garden Route - Montagu

You will be met at your guest house by your private guide who will take you on a magical journey, starting with Namaqualand, truly a land of contrasts. Each year, this seemingly arid landscape of sunbaked open plains and harsh granite outcrops bursts into a kaleidoscope of brilliant colours with the first rains of spring.
Overnight: Bartholomeus Klip Farmhouse or similar for 2 nights. (B/L/D)

Day 6: Montagu

Highlights of a stay here are the morning and evening game drives through the 10,000 acre nature reserve. There are many animals in the game reserve, easily seen in the low fynbos or on the grassy plains, but the most important inhabitant of the reserve is a far smaller creature: the endangered geometric tortoise, one of the world’s rarest reptiles. Day 7: Sanbona Wildlife Reserve

Travel onto your next destination this morning and arrive in time for lunch. The Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is 54,000 hectare large and is the only place on Earth where guests can see white lions in the wilderness. The "Big Five" as well as the nearly extinct Riverine bunny can also be viewed during a game drive.

Day 8: Sanbona Wildlife Reserve

Morning and afternoon game drives, traverse the landscapes of Sanbona Wildlife Reserve with a qualified ranger in comfortable open Landcruisers.

Day 9: Oudtshoorn

Check out this morning and depart for the miles of vineyards and fruit orchards in the Little Karoo with spectacular mountains always in view. Enjoy the attractive villages of Barrydale (excellent brandy) and Ladismith (lovely cheese) stopping for lunch en-route. The Kruis River road leads to Oudtshoorn along the renowned Swartberge mountains Overnight in Outdshoorn. Eat Boerekos, the traditional home cooking of the Karoo.

Day 10: Oudtshoorn to Plettenburg Bay

An early start today to meet a local meerkat family at sunrise – a unique experience. After breakfast, depart for De Rust, a delightful village which is the home of many artists, and travel north through spectacular Meirings Poort. Drive over the beautiful Robinson Pass to Mossel Bay and continue to Plettenberg Bay – heart of the Garden Route.
Overnight: Lairds Lodge or similar for 3 nights. (B)

Day 11: Knysna

Get up close and personal with nature at Knysna Elephant Park. With the help of the resident African elephants and the well-informed guides, you will learn about the sad and mystical story of the Knysna Elephants – the world’s Southern most elephants. Return to your accommodation for overnight. (B)

Day 12: Plettenburg Bay

The Featherbed Nature Reserve, situated on the Western Head in Knysna, is the premier eco-experience on the Garden Route.
Take a ferry trip on the Knysna Lagoon to the Western Head then a 4x4 vehicle drive up the headland onto the Reserve, stopping at spectacular viewpoints. A specialist guide will give information on history and fauna & flora. Return to your accommodation - at leisure. (B)

Day 13: Garden Route to Hermanus

After breakfast, travel along the Knysna lagoon and stunning scenery of the Garden Route to Swellendam. Stop here for lunch and a chance to visit the craft shops and art galleries of this historic town. Continue to the vibrant seaside town of Hermanus, this coastal resort offers the best land based whale watching in the world. Southern Right Whales visit Walker Bay from July until December every year.
Overnight: Ocean Eleven Guest House or similar for 2 nights. (B)

Day 14: Hermanus

Optional whale watching cruise in the morning ( to be paid locally) then set off inland via the breath-taking Hemel & Aarde Valley against the Overberg Mountains for lunch at Mog’s country retreat. Stop at the Wine Shop en-route to purchase your wine for lunch. Return to your guest house, afternoon at leisure. (B)

Day 15: Kruger National Park

Transfer to Cape Town airport for your flight to the Kruger Park where you will be met & transferred to the Lodge. Afternoon at leisure.
Overnight: Perry's Bridge Hollow or similar for 1 night. (B)

Day 16: Kruger National Park

After breakfast, you will be collected for a private transfer to Shumbalala Game Lodge, set in the heart of the 11,500 hectare Thornybush Nature Reserve, adjacent to the Greater Kruger National Park. (B/L/D)

Day 17: Kruger National Park

A typical day in the bush starts off at around 5:30 am (depending on the time of year) with a wake-up call by your ranger after which follows early morning tea/coffee before you set off on your game adventure for the day. Afternoon and evening game drives with all activities included. (B/L/D)

Day 18: Departure

Early morning game drive followed by breakfast and then a chance to relax by the pool before your transfer to the airport for your onward flight to Johannesburg for your departure flight. (B)
