This 9-night tour takes you to some of Kenya’s most breath-taking wildlife destinations. Starting at the capital, Nairobi, you’ll fly to the vast plains of the Laikipia Plateau with its stunning mountain backdrop and abundance of endangered animals. This successful conservation area is one of Kenya’s best kept secrets and you’ll enjoy game drives with knowledgeable guides and have the option to see the area from the air and on horse-back. From here you will fly to the beautiful Samburu National Park – one of Kenya’s most sought-after safari destinations. Discover the huge herds of elephants and buffalo, and spot big cats before returning to your luxurious lodge. You’ll also have the chance to sleep under the stars in a bush-camp before heading to Kenya’s beautiful coast to experience white sand, tropical jungles, crystal clear waters and five-star accomodation.
Day 1: Departure
Set off from your country of origin (international flights can be arranged by us)
Day 2: Arrive Nairobi, Kenya (D)
On arrival at Jomo Kenya International Airport in Nairobi you will be met by our representative and given a short safari briefing before being transferred to your hotel. Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya and the starting point for many safaris.
Your hotel is one of the city’s most iconic historical buildings, dating back to the 1930s. Famous for its herd of giraffes who visit in the morning and evenings before heading out to their sanctuary, you’ll also find wonderful facilities and a comfortable room where you can relax and recover from your flight. All meals, house wines, beers, spirits, soft drinks are included along with entrance to the AFEW Giraffe Centre.
Day 3: Laikipia (B, L, D)
After breakfast you will be transferred to Wilson Airport for your flight to Nanyuki – the gateway to Kenya’s vast bushland. A guide from the camp will meet you and transfer you to your lodge with a short game drive on the way plus another after lunch. Time to spot your first wild animals.
The Laikipia Plateau is one of Kenya’s lesser-known wildlife destinations but is a conservation success story and home to many of Kenya’s most endangered animals plus the sought-after Big Five. Local villagers work with conservationists to ensure that the endemic wildlife is not threatened and still maintain their traditional way of life. The plateau, as the name suggests, is at a high elevation and ranges from semi-desert to thick forests. To the North, Laikipia merges into Samburu National Reserve.
Your lodge is located on a private ranch in the valley between Mount Kenya and the rolling peaks of the Aberdares Mountains. There are five luxurious cottages, each with a large sitting area and spectacular mountain views. You can organise in-room spa treatments and the ranch offers a huge range of activities from helicopter rides to all day game drives.
Day 4 & 5: Laikipia (B, L, D)
You have a full day to make the most of the lodge’s wonderful amenities and activities. Enjoy a whole day’s game drive, test your trout fishing skills in the rivers in the rolling hills of the Aberdares or discover the bush on horse-back with a guide.
Day 6: Samburu (B, L, D)
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip for a short flight further north to the semi-arid Samburu. On arrival you will be transferred to your lodge in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive.
Samburu National Reserve attracts plenty of animals from the surrounding plains and you’ll find large herds of elephants, giraffes, buffalo and gerenuks plus frequent big cat sightings. You will also witness the red-robed Samburu tribesmen bringing their cattle to the river to drink.
Your lodge is situated on the high banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River with commanding views of the arid landscape towards the jagged peak of Mount Kenya. You’ll find an unrivalled safari experience in an area known for its wide variety of animals. The lodge is designed to take into account the African heat. So you’ll find an enormous airy room with an open air bathroom, spacious, comfortable bed and a cooling plunge pool.
Your stay includes game drives, guided bush walks, camel walks plus all your meals and drinks (including sundowners).
Day 7: Samburu camping under the stars (B, L, D)
An early start this morning as your guide will wake you at dawn before heading to a nearby Samburu village. Watch the village come to life before returning to camp for breakfast. You will then explore the bush on foot with your guide, accompanied by camels carrying all you need for the day. In the evening, you’ll experience life as a true explorer with a freshly cooked meal under the stars as the sounds of the African Bush send you to sleep.
Day 8: Samburu (B, L, D)
Enjoy your last day at Samburu with a full day in the reserve. A picnic breakfast and lunch can be arranged or if you prefer you can return to your lodge for lunch to escape the heat of the midday sun. Enjoy a guided walk around the lodge to find out more about the variety of plants and birdlife on the property.
Day 9: Diani Beach, Mombasa (B)
After breakfast you will fly back to Nairobi for your connecting flight to Diani, the perfect base to explore the tropical south coast of Kenya. With its miles of white sand beaches, coral reefs and fresh seafood, a visit to the Kenyan coast can be as relaxing or action packed as you wish. Your luxury resort boasts six fully inclusive villas complete with a personal chef, swimming pool Jacuzzi and sunken cocktail bar.
Day 10: Diani Beach, Mombasa (B)
Enjoy a day at leisure to discover the highlights of this African paradise.
Day 11: Depart (B)
