Spend 11 unforgettable days exploring Borneo, taking in it ancient rainforests, winding waterways and tropical islands. Day 1: Departure
Fly to Borneo (own arrangements).
Day 2: Arrive Sandakan, Borneo (B)
Arrive at Sandakan airport and transfer to the Sepilok Jungle Resort, set amidst beautiful landscaped gardens and thousands of acres of tropical rainforest. In the afternoon head to Sepilok Discovery Centre, where rehabilitated Orangutans are reintroduced into the wild, or the Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Optional night walk to experience the jungle after dark.
Day 3: Sepilok Jungle Resort (B)
A day at leisure to experience the Orangutan and Sun Bear sanctuaries or relax at the resort.
Day 4: Abai – Kinabatangan (B,L,D)
Board your boat in Sandakan and cruise to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary passing pristine mangrove forests and searching for wildlife. After lunch at Abai Jungle Lodge restaurant, relax or explore the surrounding area on the nature boardwalks. Head out at dusk on a cruise in search of Proboscis Monkeys, birds and reptiles and after dinner enjoy an optional guided night walk in search for insects, birds and other wildlife.
Day 5: Pitas Lake – Abai Village - (B,L,D)
Enjoy a natural early morning wake up as the jungle comes to life around you. Visit the unique Pitas Oxbow Lake before taking part in a tree planting project with a local community.
Day 6: Abai – Kinabatangan River – Sandakan (B,L)
Travel up the Kinabatangan River to Sandakan. Explore the markets before lunch in a local restaurant. Fly to Kota Kinabalu.
Day 7: Pulau Tiga (B,L,D)
Enjoy views of mangrove forests and sandy beaches as you head to the fishing village of Kuala Penyu. From here it is a 40 minute boat ride to the tropical island of Pulau Tiga. Famously seen in the hit TV series “Survivor”, the island now offers a rather more comfortable and relaxing experience, however this is still a very ‘back to nature’ resort.
Day 8: At leisure (B,L,D)
A day to explore Pulau Tida. Take the jungle trail to the mud “volcanoes” for a cleansing mud bath or simply relax on the beach and soak up the sun.
Day 9: Pulau Tiga – Kota Kinabalu (B,L)
Enjoy the morning at leisure before returning to Kuala Penyu and onward to Kota Kinabalu.
Day 10: Kota Kinabalu (B)
A final day to sightsee, buy some souvenirs or relax at the hotel. In the afternoon transfer to the airport for your return flight.
