Staying healthy overseas:
Travelling to different climates and environments abroad can expose you to health risks. You should be aware of the dangers and how to stay healthy. Diseases which aren’t present in the UK such as yellow fever, malaria, rabies and dengue fever can be common in some areas of the world. For advice on vaccinations and immunisations for the country or countries you are visiting, please see your GP or call the NHS Direct hotline on: 0845 46 47.

Staying safe overseas:
It’s easy to forget about your surroundings when you are on holiday. But remember that whilst you should enjoy yourself, make sure you take reasonable precautions to protect yourself and your belongings. When travelling around, be alert and avoid drawing attention to yourself by wearing expensive jewellery or camera equipment. Also be aware of the clothes you are wearing and be respectful of the countries culture. Many of the countries you may visit are very poor, so do not flaunt expensive possessions around local people.  Also familiarise yourself with hotel fire exits and other safety requirements. If there is a beach or swimming pool, please check pool depths before entering and be particularly careful with local sea conditions. If travelling with small children, look out for potential hazards such as unprotected open water, glass doors and balconies etc.

Top Tips:

Walk around at regular intervals on the aircraft to boost circulation

Wear loose and comfortable clothing on long journeys

Drink plenty of water on a flight and try to avoid alcohol

Always use a high factor sunscreen
