Camp Leakey, Tanjung Puting National Park

Camp Leakey is the research centre for the Orang-utan Foundation International (OFI) rehabilitation programme. What started out as just two small huts is now a fully functioning research facility where all of the research the OFI conducts on orang-utans is done. The camp now consists of about 19 miles of trails, rainforest and swamp land for the rehabilitated and wild orang-utans that have made their home there. The Camp takes in ex-captive, hurt and orphaned orangutans and they are tended for and, if possible, rehabilitated back into the wild. You can visit the Camp by local boat, called a klotok, to view the feeding of these magnificent animals and take a walk through the rainforest in search of the wild inhabitants.
