Kalimantan is the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo, the 3rd largest island in the world, and accounts for two thirds of the island as a whole. This vast area is home to only 12 million people, so most of the provinces, especially the interior, are very sparsely populated and the vast rainforests here are some of the most bio-diverse areas in the world. Unlike it's smaller northern neighbours of Sabah and Sarawak, Kalimantan is largely a tourist void with few people choosing to explore it. Those who do are able to explore Tanjung Puting National Park by local klotok, learn about the local Dayak people's history and head to Camp Leakey to see the orang-utan rehabilitation centre.
