A wonderful 13 day tailor made holiday of the Wildlife and Beaches of Sabah, including the dramatic scenery and wildlife of the Danum Valley rainforest jungle with its thrilling suspended walkway high above the jungle, the unique Proboscis monkeys along the Kinabatangan River and of course the loveable orang-utans at Sepilok. Combine this with time on the beautiful Lankayan Island in the Sulu Sea and a few days at the luxury Rasa Ria Resort, it makes for a unique and amazing Borneo tailor made holiday experience.

Day 1: Depart the UK

Depart London Heathrow to Kota Kinabalu on Malaysia Airlines changing aircraft in Kuala Lumpur.

Day 2: Arrive Kota Kinabalu

On arrival meet and private transfer to your chosen hotel.

Day 3: Danum Valley

Private transfer to Kota Kinabalu airport for flight to Lahad Datu. Meet at Lahad Datu airport, then transfer on a gravel road to your rainforest lodge for 2½ hours . After lunch, trek in one of the oldest remaining rainforests in the world. Experience an exciting suspension walkway to see wildlife. In the evening enjoy a night drive in an open-air jeep in search of nocturnal animals (weather permitting). The Rainforest Lodge is a rustic lodge built beside the Danum River. The lodge accommodates a maximum of 60 people, ensuring each guest a unique and individual jungle experience.

Day 4: Danum Valley

Today, enjoy a nature walk with experienced naturalists through undisturbed riverine and lowland dipterocarp forest. There is a good chance to photograph wildlife in this pristine jungle vegetation and experience unlimited bird watching of rainforest species. After lunch opt for either an hours water tubing in the Danum River or trekking along the Segama River. In the evening, enjoy a night walk around the lodge in search of nocturnal animals (weather permitting).

Day 5: Danum Valley to Sukau

Transfer back to Lahad Datu and onto Sukau visiting Gomantong caves en-route. Explore the biggest bird’s nest caves in Sabah. Continue the journey to the Kinabatangan River. Check in at the river lodge. Enjoy a boat trip to watch the curious Proboscis monkeys gather by the river bank. There will be a good chance of seeing numerous species of birds and other wildlife until nightfall. After dinner, weather permitting; experience a night walk to search for stick-insects, frogs and beetles.

Day 6: Oxbow Lake

This morning you are likely to be woken by the calls of the wildlife around you. Take an early morning river trip to the Pitas lake to observe the wildlife here and experience the unique sights of Pitas Lake. After breakfast, you will transfer onwards to Abai Jungle Lodge. Here you have the option to join our tree planting project with the locals and can enjoy lunch with them at Abai village. The new “Tree Planting project and lunch with the Villagers” is designed to help the villagers because we pay RM25 per person who takes part. This project is monitored to ensure that all the villagers get the benefits from it. At the same time, the villagers have the opportunity to meet with the tourists so each culture can learn about each other. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 7: Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary

This morning, transfer to Sepilok Nature Resort, a beautiful property located close to the famous Sepilok Orang-Utan Sanctuary. Rest of the day at leisure, please note access to the Sanctuary is approx RM35 per person and is payable locally.

Day 8: Lankayan Island Resort

Boat transfer to Lankayan Island.
Overnight Lankayan Island Dive Resort (diving or snorkelling packages available, please ask us).

Day 9 – 10: Lankayan Island

Day 11: Beach Resort

Return to the mainland this morning and transfer to Sandakan airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your beach resort for 2 nights. Breakfast included (B)

Day 13: Departure

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight to London Heathrow on Malaysia Airlines changing aircraft in Kuala Lumpur. Breakfast included (B)
