A privately escorted 14 day tailor made tour of Borneo which includes climbing the famous Mt. Kinabalu. Borneo is a colourfully diverse destination ideal for the more adventurous traveller offering amazing wildlife, unique animal species, jungle lodges and river cruises, snorkelling in coral reefs and spectacular rainforest. You will enjoy time wildlife spotting before trekking up Mt. Kinabalu for a spectacular view of sunrise from the highest point in South East Asia before your final few days are spent relaxing on a beautiful stretch of luxurious white sand beach.
Day 1: Departure
Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Kuala Lumpur.Day 2: Arrive Borneo
Arrive Kuala Lumpur. Transit and continue to Borneo. On arrival at Kota Kinabalu airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.Day 4: At leisure
Today is completely at leisure to relax.Day 5: Selingan Island
This morning you will be transferred to the airport for your early flight across to Sandakan. Upon arrival, depart for Selingan Island, one of three islands, where Green and Hawksbill turtles come ashore almost nightly throughout the year to lay their eggs. A leisurely lunch will be served en-route on nearby Libaran Island.After arriving on Selingan Island, the rest of the day is free for snorkelling or to explore the island's jungle interior. Park Ranger will take you to see the turtles laying their eggs and the newly-hatched creatures making their way to the sea for the first time. Overnight at Selingan Island Resort in simple chalet style accommodation with twin beds and private facilities.
Day 6: Sepilok
Return to the mainland. Transfer to the Sepilok Nature Resort with time at leisure to visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary. Overnight at Sepilok Nature Resort in simple chalet style accommodation with private facilities. Evening at leisure.Day 7: Kinabatangan River Cruise
After breakfast, cruise by boat across to Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. Another chance for wildlife sightings, the journey time is approximately 2½ hours.Arrive in the Sukau River region and check into the Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. Late afternoon, an option to take another river cruise with electric motor to Menanggul River, a small tributary of the Kinabatangan. This is a perfect opportunity to look for the famous Proboscis monkeys and the hornbill, as well as pygmy elephants and, if you’re lucky, wild orang-utans!

Day 8: Kinabatangan
Wake up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills. Early morning, take a river trip to the Ox Bow Lake to observe wildlife and experience the early morning river ambience of the longest river of Sabah.Return to the lodge for breakfast then have some time free at your own leisure. After lunch, proceed overland to Gomantong Birdnest Caves. Upon arrival, take a 15 minute walk on the plank walk to the cave. Explore the largest bird's nest cave in Sabah, home to millions of Bats and swift-lets. The nest of the swift-lets are collected for the famous Chinese edible birds nest soup. Return back to the lodge for late afternoon river cruise to search for more wildlife.
Day 9: Kinabalu Park
This morning you will be collected for the overland transfer to Kinabalu Park. You will stop at Poring Hot Springs, which were developed by the Japanese in WWII. Relax in steaming, sulphurous pools and explore the various nature trails. There is also a canopy walkway, some 30 metres above the jungle floor: fascinating but not for the faint-hearted!Transfer onwards to the Mountain Lodge for your overnight stay.
Day 10: Mt. Kinabalu Climb
After breakfast check-in at Park Headquarters for the transport that will take you to the Power Station for the start of your trek to Laban Rata (10,700 ft). The trekking takes about 5 hours and en-route you can witness four different types of vegetation lowland forest, montane, moss and sub-alpine. Overnight at Laban Rata resthouse in basic, dormitory accommodation.Day 11: Mt. Kinabalu Sunrise
Commence trekking to the summit (approximately 3 hours) at 03:00 hours. Arrive just in time to catch the sunrise.Return to the rest house for breakfast and then return to the Park Headquarters. After breakfast, transfer onwards to Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort for a well deserved rest.
Days 12 - 13:
Days at leisure to relax and enjoy the Resort.Day 14: Departure
Check out of the hotel and transfer to the airport for your return flight from Kota Kinabalu to London via Kuala Lumpur.Price includes:
