For every booking, we will donate a 1 year adoption of Bella on your behalf to the Orang Utan Appeal UK. You will receive an adoption certificate, photos of Bella and twice yearly email updates.
Here's some more information about Bella:
Bella was brought to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre on 11 October 2010 when she was roughly 2 years old. She was spotted by estate workers in a Palm Oil plantation in the Kinabatangan area, covered in mud and eating young shoots of the palm oil crop. The events which resulted in her becoming separated from her mother are not clear, but the actions of the staff at the plantation certainly saved her life.
Bella was not is good health on her arrival at the Centre - she was suffering heavily from parasites. This meant that she had to spend 3 months in quarantine before she was allowed to mix with other young orang-utans.
Right from the start, it was clear that Bella was a very brave little girl. She was happy to leave her carers and go off to explore her new surroundings alone. Bella visits the big jungle gym on the edge of the forest, where she can climb on the ropes and trees and as soon as she gets there, she climbs right up to the top of the trees and makes nests, a brilliant skill to be practicing at just 3 years old. She has also started to show her feisty character, shaking the branches of the trees and making ‘kiss squeak’ noises when she spots someone unfamiliar nearby.
Bella has a lot to learn during the next few years to enable her to be returned to her natural home, the rainforest. It will be interesting to follow her journey through the rehabilitation process and see what she is able to achieve before hopefully being re-introduced into the wild in time to come.
