Taybet Zaman Hotel ***
Just off the Desert Highway in the Taybet Mountains lies the old Jordanian village of Taybeh. Once a lively village near the sacred mountains of Petra, it was almost deserted as a living community during the 1960's when its inhabitants moved toward modernization. After much debate about what to do with the old village, the former Mayor of Taybeh, Abu Firas proposed turning the village into a tourist hideaway, thereby creating a partnership with the local community. The end result was a recycled village, owned, rebuilt and run by the locals, keeping the community and its heritage alive.
Taybet Zaman was restored with respect to authenticity of materials, environment and regional style resulting in a preservation of culture, recycling of materials and an experience its guests will forever remember.
The Petra Taybet Zaman Hotel is distinguished by its bedouin-style rooms. Each room is each uniquely appointed, with private bathrooms, air conditioning and heat and are tastefully furnished to compliment the village style and setting. All rooms feature satellite TV, direct dial telephones, a mini-bar, hairdryers and in-room safes. Among the resort's amenities are a Turkish Bath, an outdoor swimming pool, museum, Souk (market) where pottery, weaving and other crafts are produced on site; an Arabic bakery, a restaurant with traditional Arabic and international home-cooked specialties and a bar. Enjoy dancing and nightly entertainment in the village square. Taybet Zaman has two on-site restaurants: Sahtain Snack Bar, a cozy place where you can enjoy a drink before dinner or after a day exploring Petra, or Sahtain Restaurant which is a typically local restaurant representing the regional rural life of the past.
